Cougar Men's Hoops Inks Fifth Signee

The Houston Cougar men's basketball program announced on Friday that it has signed its fifth recruit under first-year head coach James Dickey.

Alandise Harris is a 6'5" swingman from Little Rock, Arkansas. He was a three-time All-State honoree during his career. As a senior in high school, he averaged 20.3 points, 10.7 rebounds, 4.5 assists and 2.7 blocks per game. So, he's the type of guy you'd want on your fantasy team. But Dickey was focused on Harris' ability to help win actual games.

Alandise is a versatile player with the ability to face up on the perimeter and also post up. He is a competitor who defends, rebounds and can score the basketball. Alandise comes from a successful high school program, and his main goal is to help his team win.

Harris is the third high schooler in the incoming class, to go along with two junior college transfers. Four of those players, Harris included, fall between 6'3" and 6'7" - the other signee is 5'9" point guard Fabyon Harris. Despite the impressive talent level of recruit that Dickey has brought in while working with a shortened recruiting season, the lack of players with size on next year's Cougar roster is cause for concern. Only two players this coming season - Maurice McNeil and Kirk Van Slyke - will top 6'7". (Sophomore Kendrick Washington, who checks in at 6'7", 270 lbs will get a significant look in the post.)

The Houston Cougars are still hoping to add to their recruiting class after seeing their roster decimated this off-season due to graduation and transfers. At the top of the list are a pair of Yates High School stars in Joseph Young (whose appeal for release from the NLI he signed with Providence is still under review) and 6'9" Alex Davis.
