Stein: Rockets Throw Themselves Into Beasley Talks, Hope To Land Chandler

According to ESPN’s Marc Stein, the Houston Rockets have entered trade talks with the Toronto Raptors and Charlotte Bobcats, who in turn are discussing a trade with the Miami Heat. The Heat are reportedly pressing for the Raptors to take Michael Beasley and send him to Charlotte, which would be the first part of a four-team trade.

The proposed deal, per Stein:

The proposed deal, sources said, would send Beasley and Rockets forward Jared Jeffries to Charlotte, land Bobcats center Tyson Chandler in Houston and create sufficient cap space for Heat president Pat Riley to offer max-contract money to Dwyane Wade, Chris Bosh and James.

The trade would land Toronto a trade exception and presumably a first round pick from Miami. Currently, the Raptors are not interested in the proposed deal, but Charlotte and Miami are keeping talks alive.

Chandler would give the Rockets another 7-footer and would provide quality defensive and rebounding insurance behind Yao Ming. The 27-year-old averaged 6.5 points and 6.3 rebounds per game last season with the Bobcats, but had averaged between eight and twelve rebounds per game every season since 2004. The move would give the Rockets the size they’ve been looking for without having to A) Trade too much away, and B) Clog the roster.
