Houston Texans To Work Out Jake Delhomme, Jeff Garcia, According To Reports

The Houston Texans have lost backup quarterback Matt Leinart for the season after breaking his collarbone in a win over Jacksonville Sunday. Leinart was subbing for starter Matt Schaub, lost for the year with a right foot injury. Now that leaves... the NFC All-Stars?

According to multiple reports, the Texans will work out two former NFL quarterbacks, 36-year-old Jake Delhomme (primarily of the Carolina Panthers) and 41-year-old Jeff Garcia (of Philadelphia and San Francisco fame). Delhomme has the most recent activity in the league - he was cut by Cleveland during training camp this season and has been working out at his home in Louisiana. Garcia was last seen in the now-defunct United Football League's Omaha Nighthawks franchise.

Rookie T.J. Yates of North Carolina will start Sunday for the Texans against Atlanta. Yates is a Marietta, Ga., native.

Matt Leinart Injury Update: Gary Kubiak Confirms His Second Quarterback Is Done For The Season

There's at least one thing that folks can't say about the Houston Texans, they are an equal opportunity employer when it comes to quarterbacks in the NFL as it looks like the need to sign another signal caller is on the to-do list for the organization.

Per the Houston Texans twitter feed, Texans head coach Gary Kubiak has confirmed that 2nd string quarterback Matt Leinart is done for the remainder of the season:

Leinart has a fracture, will need surgery, likely in next week. He's very disappointed. We will bring another QB in, but most important thing now is moving forward with TJ Yates and Kellen Clemens.

Kubiak also spoke about the future prospects at quarterback beyond Yates and Clemens:

All QB's brought in last week for tryouts did things well, have different skillsets, but we don't know yet who we will sign. Names will come forward over the next few days. You don't rule out anybody at this point, or confirm anybody.

The Houston Texans will prepare Yates and Clemens for the Atlanta Falcons on Sunday at 1 p.m.

Texans Won't Bring 'The Circus' To Town And Sign Brett Favre, According To Reports

Houston Texans general manager is in desperate need of a quarterback, but not desperate enough to add another chapter to the NFL saga that just won't die. The National Football Post has a report quoting Smith that the Texans will absolutely not look at bringing in perpetually retired quarterback Brett Favre now that Houston has lost starter Matt Schaub and backup Matt Leinart to injuries.

The next in line to start for the 8-3 Texans behind center is rookie T.J. Yates from the University of North Carolina. Yates saw time in Sunday's win over Jacksonville, and will get the start this week against 7-4 Atlanta at home. The Texans have signed former Jets quarterback Kellen Clemens, and could possibly sign former Chiefs quarterback Brodie Croyle, but again, emphatically, and for the record: NO BRETT FAVRE. NOT HAPPENING:

Texans general manager Rick Smith is again resisting the temptation to pursue Favre, saying, "I don't want to bring the circus to town" to Peter King of Sports Illustrated.

Matt Leinart Injury: Adam Schefter Reports Texans Quarterback Could Be Done For Season

The quarterback woes continue for the Houston Texans who may have lost yet another signal caller to a season ending injury. ESPN's Adam Schefter reports that Texans quarterback Matt Leinart could be done for the season after suffering a collarbone injury in the Texans' 20-13 win over the Jacksonville Jaguars on Sunday.

Texans QB Matt Leinart, whose left arm was in a sling with a collarbone injury, said there's a "pretty good possibility" his season is over.

Leinart made his first start of the season on Sunday against Jacksonville filling in for Matt Schaub who is also out for the season with a foot injury. Leinart completed 10 of 13 passes for 57 yards including the go ahead touchdown before leaving with the injury. Rookie quarterback T.J. Yates replaced Leinart and successfully managed the game the rest of the way going 8 of 15 for 70 yards.

Houston leads the AFC South by two games over the Tennessee Titans but may be once again searching for an answer at the quarterback position.

Texans Vs. Jaguars Final Score: Houston Gets Defensive In 20-13 Win Over Jacksonville

The Houston Texans moved to 8-3 on the season with a 20-13 victory over the Jacksonville Jaguars on Sunday despite having to go through another quarterback. Matt Leinart made his first start for the injured Matt Schaub. Leinart lasted 13 pass attempts before he suffered an injury to his shoulder.

The Texans took a 20-10 lead into halftime and made it stand up. The Jaguars' Josh Scobee converted a 35 yard field goal with 4:19 left in the game to wrap up all of the scoring for this game in the second half.

Leinart was accurate during his short stint under center for the Texans but didn't really look to throw the ball down the field. He finished 10 of 13 for just 57 yards but did have a 20 yard touchdown pass to Joel Dreessen that gave the Texans the lead for good. T.J. Yates came in and managed the game well completing 8 of 15 for 70 yards.

Arian Foster led the way on the ground with 22 carries for 65 yards and a touchdown despite two fumbles one of which led to Jacksonville's only  touchdown of the game. Foster also finished with seven catches for 24 yards. Andre Johnson made his return to the Houston lineup from a hamstring injury and finished with two catches for 22 yards.

The Jaguars offense was all Maurice Jones-Drew and little else. Jones-Drew finished with 99 yards rushing and 67 yards receiving but couldn't find his way into the end zone. Blaine Gabbert struggled completing just 13 off 29 passes for 136 yards and an interception. Gabbert later gave way to Luke McCown who finished 7 of 11 for 62 yards.

Texans Vs. Jaguars Update: Houston's TJ Yates Rights The Ship, Texans Lead 20-10

WIth Matt Leinart out for the remainder of the game versus the Jacksonville Jaguars, Houston Texans' third-string quarter TJ Yates has come in and done what's been asked of him thus far.

Make the easy passes, hand the ball off and don't turn the ball over. Check. Check. Check.

The Texans still hold a 20-10 advantage over the Jaguars going into the fourth quarter at Everbank Field in Jacksonville. Gary Kubiak has tried to lean on his running game, but two uncharacteristic fumbles by Arian Foster has helped keep the Jaguars in the game. Foster has 61 yards rushing and a touchdown thus far.

The Texans defense has stepped up to slow down the Jaguars offense, as five sacks and only one field goal allowed is proof that the defensive side of the ball isn't as maligned as their past would indicate.

With a win, the Texans would move to 8-3 and could lock up the AFC South in the coming weeks.

Matt Leinart Injury Update: Texans QB Suffers Injury To Clavicle, Per Report

The Houston Texans can't seem to catch a break with their quarterbacks, as Matt Leinart has been ruled out for the rest of the game as the quarterback suffered an injury to his shoulder/clavicle late the second half and had to be escorted off the field by Texans' trainers.

Per the NFL Network's Rich Eisen:

@RichEisen Matt Leinart just taken off field, holding left clavicle. Enter TJ Yates. Next man up after may be Kubiak. Or Greg Knapp.

Yes, that means that rookie quarterback TJ Yates from North Carolina has been asked to step in for Leinart. The Texans don't have another active quarterback on the roster, and the Jaguars have been able to get pressure on the quarterback thus far.

Leinart finished his day going 10-13 passing for 57 yards and a touchdown on one half of play.

Texans Vs. Jaguars Halftime Update: Defense Steps Up To Give Houston 17-10 Advantage

Let the Matthew Stephen Leinart era begin. Matt Leinart connected with Joel Dressen in the second quarter for a 20-yard touchdown reception to give the former USC quarterback his first touchdown of the season and the Texans the lead back over the Jaguars. The touchdown pushed the lead to 14-10.

Here is the video of Leinart's touchdown pass to Dressen if you missed it:

A Jonathan Joseph interception (which worked like an arm punt for Jaguars' QB Blaine Gabbert) helped give the Texans good field position and Neil Rackers a chance to put a field goal through the uprights for a 17-10 lead.

Jaguars' kicker Josh Scobee attempted a 53-yard field goal late in the second quarter to get Jacksonville back to within 4 at 17-13, but the kick went wide left and the Jaguars are still down a touchdown.'

Late in the second quarter Matt Leinart was sacked and suffered an injury as he was holding his ribs. The Texans staff escorted Leinart to the locker room and 3rd string QB TJ Yates has entered the game. More details as they come across.

Texans Vs. Jaguars Score: Arian Foster Can Giveth And Taketh Away, Score Tied 7-7

Arian Foster has been an Indian Giver thus far for the Houston Texans. The tailback from Tennessee ran the ball to the right side in the first quarter only to have Paul Posluszny force a fumble and Ashton Youboty scoop and score to give the Jacksonville Jaguars an early 7-0 lead.

Then Arian decided to run a 43-yard wind sprint through the teeth of the Jaguars' defense to key a touchdown drive for the Texans to tie the game. Foster's one-yard touchdown plunge was his seventh of the season and his work output will look to go up even more after Matt Schaub has been placed on injured reserve for the rest of the season.

Newly installed starter Matt Leinart has thrown for 33 years thus far in his first start for the Texans.

Texans Vs. Jaguars Injury Report And Inactive List, Week 12: Andre Johnson Is Officially Starting

The Houston Texans will be getting wide receiver Andre Johnson in the starting lineup for today's game against the Jacksonville Jaguars, so that is a big relief for them. Plus Danieal Manning is back after breaking his leg only one month ago and he will be in the starting lineup.

None of the other inactives for the Texans involve a player in the starting lineup.

Houston inactive list:

• Quarterback Kellen Clemens
• Fullback Lawrence Vickers
• Tight end Garrett Graham
• Offensive tackle Andrew Gardner
• Guard Thomas Austin
• Defensive end Tim Bulman
• Cornerback Brandon Harris

The Jaguars are missing two defensive starters in Matt Roth and Terranace Knighton and Matt Roth. The defensive end position will be weak as not only is Roth out but so is his backup Aaron Kampan is also inactive for today's game. The replacement for Knighton will be C.J. Mosley.

Jacksonville inactive list:

• Quarterback Dan LeFevour
• Wide receiver Brian Robiskie
• Tight end Fendi Onobun
• Center/Guard John Estes
• Defensive end Aaron Kampman
• Defensive tackle Terrance Knighton
• Defensive end Matt Roth

Andre Johnson Is In Starting Lineup Against Jaguars

Houston Texans wide receiver Andre Johnson is officially back in the starting lineup for the Houston Texans. Johnson was expected to play earlier this week but his exact playing status was uncertain. Johnson practiced all week for the Texans, but he was also listed on their injury report as probable. Johnson has not played since he injured his hamstring back on Oct. 2 against the Pittsburgh Steelers.

Getting Johnson back is huge for the Texans since they are without starting quarterback Matt Schaub for the rest of the year and due to injury and are going with Matt Leinart. Leinart has not started a game since his days as an Arizona Cardinal so he will need all the help he can get with Johnson back in the lineup.

Owen Daniels Week 12 Fantasy Football Projections

Tight end Owen Daniels has been hampered by a knee injury that has slowed him down this year and Daniels has not scored a touchdown since Week 5. Having a Matt Leinart as a new quarterback does not help, the two have had the bye week to build chemistry.

One good reason that Daniels is still a goo play is that the Jacksonville Jaguars give up yards and touchdowns to the tight end position, and Daniels has had success against Jacksonville by scoring two touchdowns in his last three games against the Jaguars.

With all of those considerations, Daniels is a high risk play and could range anywhere from 1.75 - 10.53 according to numberFire.

Overall at the tight end position numbeFire projects Daniels at No. 12.

Andre Johnson Week 12 Fantasy Football Projections

Houston Texans wide receiver Andre Johnson is returning after missing that past six games with a hamstring injury and is expected to be back in the lineup. However, he will be without his starting quarterback Matt Schaub who is out with for the season with a lisfranc injury. In Schaub's place will be Matt Leinart and that will effect the type of numbers that Johnson could put up Sunday against the Jacksonville Jaguars. Plus, look for Houston to run the ball a lot with Arian Foster early on in this game so that all the pressure is not on Leinart's arm to win the game.

With Johnson's hamstring injury even though he is expected to be at full strength he could have second thoughts and times on the field making cuts to avoid injuring his hamstring again, and that could cause him to not make plays or get open.

Over at numberFire, they are cautious about ranking to high and have him ranked as the No. 14 wide receiver this week.

Arian Foster Week 12 Fantasy Football Projections

Since the Houston Texans are going to be without Matt Schaub for this weeks game against the Jacksonville Jaguars and possibly the rest of the season it could make running back Arian Foster even more valuable. With this week being the first start for Matt Leinart, one can expect Foster to receive a lot of carries and have a big game against the Jaguars.

The last time that Foster played against the Jaguars he had 33 carries for 112 yards and a touchdown and one catch for 12 yards and has scored four touchdowns in his last three games against the Jaguars. Foster also has been extremely productive his last four games he has rushed for 435 yards rushing, 259 yards receiving and has scored seven total touchdowns.

According to numberFire, the are projecting that Foster have another big game and rank him as the top running back in Week 12.

That is the good news for the Texans this week since they already knew they will be without Matt Schaub for the year.

Andre Johnson Injury Update: Star WR Will Return After Two-Month Absence Sunday

After missing six games since injuring his hamstring on Oct. 2 against Pittsburgh, WR Andre Johnson is expected to return to action for Houston Sunday against Jacksonville:

 John Clayton
WR Julio Jones, Andre Johnson and Stevie Johnson are probable and will play Sunday.

With backup QB Matt Leinart making his first NFL start since 2009, Johnson's return couldn't have come at a better time for the Texans.

Leinart was never known for his arm strength at USC or for the Cardinals, so Johnson's 6'3 226 frame could bail him out on third downs while his ability to break tackles could give Houston a big-play element in their short passing game.

Despite playing in only four games, Johnson has still been one of the Texans' most productive WR's this season, as Matt Schaub focused on Houston's RB's and TE's in the passing game in Johnson's absence.

Houston Texans Week 12 Injury Report: Andre Johnson Was A Full Participant In Practice

The good news for the Houston Texans, Andre Johnson was a full participant in practice and looks ready to go for Sunday's contest versus the Jacksonville Jaguars. The bad news, the quarterback he's been used to throwing him passes for the majority of his career is out for the reason of the season.

Matt Schaub's injury has forced Gary Kubiak to install Matt Leinart into the starting lineup, and at 7-3, the buildup of the former USC quarterback will be key to getting the Texans into the playoffs. A win over Jacksonville would provide tons of security in locking up a playoff spot.

Andre Johnson Injury Update: Houston Texans' Star Receiver Ready To Go Against Jaguars

The Houston Texans get a big piece of their offensive puzzle back this week as Andre Johnson was a full participant in practice on Monday. Johnson and new quarterback, Matt Leinart, have a week to get their timing down together before Sunday's game against the Jacksonville Jaguars. And if Monday's practice is any indication, the Texans will be fine. via San Antonio Express News

"Andre was fine," Kubiak said. "He took all his reps with the team. We will monitor his reps in practice and probably going into the game, but all systems should be go this weekend."

It wasn't just coach Kubiak that was excited to see Johnson back out on the field. Texans' running back Arian Foster let out a "No. 80 is back!!!", after Johnson plucked a ball from the air on a Leinart pass across the middle in practice on Monday.

ESPN Power Rankings: Houston Texans Move Up This Week, Despite Not Playing

The Houston Texans made moves in this weeks ESPN Power Rankings without even playing. The Texans benefited from the loss by the New York Giants and moved from No. 9 in last weeks' rankings to No. 8 this week.

Houston also benefited this week because fellow AFC South members, the Tennessee Titans and Jacksonville Jaguars both lost their games, which gave Houston a two-game lead in the division. The Texans now sit at 7-3 on the season, while the Titans fall to at 5-5 after Sunday's loss to the Falcons. Andre Johnson will be returning to the lineup this week against the Jacksonville Jaguars and that should help new-starting quarterback Matt Leinart, who is filling in for the injured Matt Schaub

The Texans have six games remaining on their schedule and only two of those games are against teams that currently have winning records, the Atlanta Falcons (6-4) on December 4th, and the Cincinnati Bengals (6-4) on December 11th.

The Titans fall to No. 16 in this weeks power rankings, while the Jaguars fell to No. 28 and the Colts hold down the last spot again this week at No. 32.
