Aeros Title Hopes On The Brink After 4-2 Loss To Senators

Stay connected for news and updates

If the Houston Aeros are going to win their third championship, they're going to need two straight victories over the Binghamton Senators to do it. The Aeros dropped a 4-2 decision to Binghamton Saturday night, putting them in a 3-2 hole in their best of seven series for the Calder Cup.

Zack Smith scored two goals for the Senators in a game that featured four combined first-period goals. After being outshot by the Senators 37-21 in a frenetic game four, the Aeros made sure they had plenty of scoring opportunities Saturday night, outshooting Binghamton 43-27.

Houston set the pace for much of the second period, but a power play goal by Smith with 8.5 seconds left in the frame gave the Senators a 3-2 lead heading into the intermission.

The Aeros now return to Houston with a chance to win two straight games and a championship in front of their home fans. Game six will take place at Toyota Center Tuesday night, where the puck will drop at 7:05. If necessary, a decisive game seven will be played in Houston on Thursday night.
