Les Miles stands behind Zach Mettenberger as Alabama looms

Thomas Campbell-US PRESSWIRE

Zach Mettenberger's struggles haven't shaken his head coach's faith in him.

If there's a question surrounding No. 6 LSU before its game against No. 1 Alabama on Nov. 3, it's quarterback Zach Mettenberger. But Tigers coach Les Miles is confident in his signal-caller, writes Spencer Hutchinson of lsureveille.com.

With LSU on bye this week, Mettenberger will have had two weeks to shake off last week's bad performance by the time the Crimson Tide come to town next Saturday night. In last Saturday's 24-19 win over Texas A&M, Mettenberger completed only 11 of 29 passes for a meager 97 yards. But Miles is looking at the positives:

"I don't know that you can put all the passing woes on a quarterback," Miles said. "Some of the balls were pretty well-thrown. There was a penalty called on a deep ball that was right in (Odell Beckham Jr.'s) hands. I thought that was a wonderful throw by Zach."

Mettenberger took care of the ball against the Aggies, which will be vital against the top-ranked Tide. Alabama has forced 20 turnovers this season, including 13 interceptions. Miles said he hopes that previous big games against South Carolina and Texas A&M will help Mettenberger's preparation for the biggest game of his career.
