LSU vs. Alabama: Tiger defense preps for 'flawless' Tide offense

Derick E. Hingle-US PRESSWIRE

Alabama's defense has played about as flawlessly as possible so far, but LSU hopes to find a weakness to exploit.

The fifth-ranked LSU Tigers' best hope on offense Saturday night against the No. 1 Alabama Crimson Tide might be just hoping the Tide has a bad game. To this point, the Tide 'D' has shown very little, if any, weakness. But as LSU defensive end Sam Montgomery told Mike Herndon of al.com, no team can play perfectly every single game, and there have to be weaknesses in Alabama's defense the team can take advantage of:

"Not everybody is going to do everything 110 percent all the time. There's always a weakness -- whether it's mental, physical, technique-wise or the scheme of the offense. There will be one somewhere. It's just you've got to take advantage of those times when they're presented to you."

Montgomery did concede that what he's seen of Alabama's defense on tape so far was pretty close to flawless, and that their athleticism is tough to contain:

"I've also seen some times where guys got to the quarterback, some guys made some big plays. It's just that, with the physical caliber of Alabama, not a lot of people can keep up with that for four quarters."

Alabama and LSU rank No. 1 and 2 respectively in the SEC in total defense and No. 1 and 3 nationally. They meet Saturday night in Baton Rouge, La., at 7 p.m. CT in a game televised by CBS.
