John Rieger-US PRESSWIRE

The Longhorns came out ready to play on Saturday and hold an early lead over the Cyclones.

The Texas Longhorns have struggled to get out to early leads against their opponents this season. That was not the case on Saturday against Iowa State; the Longhorns scored touchdowns on two of their first three drives of the game in the first quarter and now hold a 14-0 lead over the Cyclones.

David Ash is a perfect 6-for-6 today with 145 yards and a TD pass. UT took a 7-0 lead on Johnathan Gray's five-yard run to the end zone midway through the first quarter. On their next drive, Ash hit Mike Davis for a 61-yard bomb to extend the lead.

Iowa State has not looked sharp so far. A costly interception in the red zone halted what looked to be a promising drive late in the first quarter, and now Texas is taking the ball down the field yet again.

A win for the Longhorns would push them to 8-2 this season.
