Tyrann Mathieu considering NFL Draft, living with Patrick Peterson's family

The former LSU cornerback, who was arrested on drug possession charges late last month, has found respite with the family of former college teammate Patrick Peterson.

Former LSU Tigers cornerback Tyrann Mathieu has found a temporary home with the family of former Tigers teammate Patrick Peterson after being arrested and charged on a marijuana-related offense late last month, according to a report from the South Florida Sun-Sentinel.

Peterson's father, Patrick Peterson Sr., said Friday that "Honey Badger" (Mathieu's nickname) has been staying at the family's home in Coconut Creek, Fla. since Tuesday, and will be there indefinitely.

"He wanted to get away from what's happening down there [in Baton Rouge, La.] and maybe away from some of the people he's around. ...He's a great kid," Peterson Sr. told the Sun-Sentinel. "The kid is awesome. It's just that his decision-making, sometimes, he gets caught up. Maybe me and him can hang out a little bit and I can talk to him and tell him exactly what he needs to understand about life and his career and his goals."

After failing multiple drug tests last year, the troubled Mathieu was dismissed from the football team in August. He was arrested on Oct. 25, along with three other former Tigers, and charged with a minor possession of marijuana offense.

Peterson Sr., who has been training athletes for 12 to 13 years and served as a mentor for troubled local kids in the area, told the Sun-Sentinel that he wasn't sure if Mathieu was planning to return as a college student or declare for the 2013 NFL Draft, "He might throw his name in the hat for the NFL Draft. I don't know how that's going to work."
