NBA All-Star Game 2012 Time, TV Schedule And More

The Houston Rockets won't be represented in Sunday's NBA All-Star game. Houston's Kyle Lowry made a strong case to be included on the Western Conference team but it was tough to crack a backcourt that already includes the likes of Chris Paul, Steve Nash, Tony Parker and Russell Westbrook.

The game promises to be an entertaining affair once again. The West took home the victory in last year's game winning 148-143. This year's Western Conference All-Stars will be led by the likes of Kevin Durant, Blake Griffin and Kobe Bryant who were voted in as starters along with Paul and Bryant's teammate Andrew Bynum.

The East squad is stacked as well with LeBron James, Derrick Rose, Dwyane Wade, Carmelo Anthony and Dwight Howard all being voted in as starters.

Game date/time: Sunday, February 26, 6:30 p.m. CT

Location: Amway Center, Orlando, Florida

TV: TNT

2012 NBA Dunk Contest: Jeremy Evans Is The Champion

The 2012 NBA Slam Dunk Contest winner went to Jeremy Evans of the Utah Jazz. Evans beat out Chase Budinger, Derrick Williams and Paul George for the win.

The dunk that put Evans over the top was when he jumped over a person in a chair who also threw up two balls and then proceeded to make the dunk with both basketball balls. Also, the Evans dunk where he was wearing a camera looked pretty cool from that first person perspective.

It is hard to argue that Evans dunks were not the best, and even though one of his dunks was similar to the Houston Rockets Chase Budinger who jumped over a person. Budinger jumped over a celebrity so one would think that would could for a bit more by the fans who voted for the winner.

Slam Dunk Contest 2012 Video: Chase Budinger Pays Tribute To Cedric Ceballos With Blindfolded Dunk

In Chase Budinger's final dunk attempt he is paying tribute to Cedric Ceballos by attempting the same dunk Ceballos did 20 years ago by dunking the ball blindfolded. Ceballos was even at the event to help support Budinger. Well, the first attempt went as bad as anyone could have expected as Budinger timidly jumped and barely even made it half way up the rim.

However, the second attempt Budinger made sure to count his steps to make sure he would know when to jump. On his second try Budinger not only made the dunk, but he did a 180 degree dunk and threw it down. Now assuming that we all believe Budinger could actually not see does make this dunk impressive, and judging by how his first attempt went it seems like he could not see.

Here is another view of the blindfolded dunk:

Slam Dunk Contest 2012 Video: Chase Budinger Throws Down A Windmill Dunk

After Chase Budinger's first dunk which had him dunking over P. Diddy, for his second attempt Budinger went for a windmill jam but his first try was no good. When Budinger went for it on his second attempt he was able to throw down the windmill jam and he took off from the dotted line.

Charles Barkley was giving him a lot of credit for the dunk while the other TNT guys were not giving him as much for making that dunk. When the over the head camera shot was put up for a replay the dunk looked very good.

It may not have been as impressive as dunking over a person to some people, but the windmill slam is always a classic dunk.

Slam Dunk Contest 2012 Video: Chase Budinger Dunks Over P. Diddy

Houston Rockets Chase Budinger is pulling out the tricks and has brought out a prop in the form of rapper P. Diddy and decided to dunk over Diddy. On his first attempt Budinger soars over Diddy and cleanly throws down the dunk halfway between the free throw line and the basket. Budinger has Diddy toss the ball up for Budinger to catch and make the dunk. The throw from Diddy was right on the money and the dunk looked extremely easy.

Here is the dunk that Budinger made look way too easy:

Here is an alternate view of the dunk:

Being the very first dunk attempt, it just means that Budinger will have to be more impressive with his following two dunks to top this first one.

Chase Budinger To Dunk Over P Diddy In Dunk Contest?

Houston Rockets forward Chase Budinger is participating in Saturday's Sprite Slam Dunk Contest, and Budinger may not come to mind as a great dunker. However, this highlight clip might make you think again:

To win the dunk contest the contestants must be creative to try to wow the judges. However, this year with the judges actually being fans on Twitter it brings a different aspect to the event. Budinger looks to be doing something different in the dunk contest and is reportedly going to be dunking over rapper P. Diddy in tonight's event.

So, if Budinger does jump over P. Diddy it could get him near the top, because it is always cool to see someone dunk over a person.

2012 NBA Slam Dunk Contest: Can Chase Budinger Bring Home The Title?

The Houston Rockets have had their fair share of representation in the annual mid-season tradition that is known as the NBA Slam-Dunk contest. From Ralph Sampson in the 1980's, to Kenny Smith in the 1990's, to Steve Francis in the 2000's, the Rockets have been on the Saturday night stage a few times. Now in the 2010's, its time for Chase Budinger to ascend to the Rockets' dunk throne.

However, not one of the players have actually won the event. Steve Francis put together an awesome array of dunks in 2000, but ultimately Vince Carter would achieve his greatest accomplishment in his career by putting together arguably the best dunk performance of all-time, winning the 2000 dunk title.

Budinger has a legitimate chance, (there was a promotional video of Budinger dunking over a life-size replica of Yao Ming cardboard cutout lurking on the internet somewhere) as with the rules changes and shift in voting (all fan votes) that Budinger's ability to be part showman and part showstopper.

Pacers guard Paul George has had the most dunks in season, Timberwolves forward Derrick Williams might be the biggest name, and Jazz forward Jeremy Evans might be the biggest darkhorse, but Budinger could call fellow Arizona alum Andre Iguodala for some tips and advice in the dunk contest as well.

As long as it doesn't result in second place to a 5'7" guard.

2012 NBA All-Star Weekend: Current And Former Rockets On Team Texas For Shooting Stars Competition

One of the many events of the NBA's All-Star Weekend is the Haier Shooting Stars competition, in which three-member teams composed of current players from both the NBA and the WNBA as well as former players face off against each other in a shooting competition. The All-Star game is being played in Orlando this season and Orlando has their own team, but Texas has a team competing in the Shooting Stars tournament as well along with Atlanta and New York.

Team Texas is represented by a current and a former Rockets player. The current player is rookie forward Chandler Parsons, who has worked his way into the starting lineup for the Rockets and 7.1 points per game. He's from the Orlando area. The former Rockets player is TNT analyst Kenny Smith, who won two NBA Championships with the team in 1994 and in 1995. The third player on the team is Sophia Young of the WNBA's San Antonio Silver Stars. She's a four-time WNBA All Star and she 13.2 points in the 2011 season.

The competition works as follows:

There are six numbered shooting locations of increasing difficulty, with each team attempting to make all shots in numeric order in the fastest time. Each team will select a specific player rotation to follow throughout the competition. Each shot must be made before the next player begins shooting in succession. Teams have up to two minutes to complete the entire shooting course and the team that completes all six shots in the least amount of time is declared the winner. In the case of a tie, a shoot-off will be used to determine the winner.

If team Texas wins, they'll be the third Texas-based team to do so in the history of the competition (Houston won in 2006 and Dallas won in 2010).
