Could The Texas Tech Vs. Texas A&M Rivalry Go Away Forever?

A rivalry that was first consummated back in 1927 could possibly have its entire history left in the dust if two schools can't come to an agreement soon. The Texas A&M Aggies and the Texas Tech Red Raiders will informally divorce at the end of the season as the Aggies take their talents to SEC this summer, but talks have broken down on keeping the rivalry ongoing.

Earlier on Monday, Texas Tech athletic director Kirby Hocutt said that the Red Raiders will not play the Aggies in any sport unless they strike a deal with the school in College Station to compete in ever single sport.

"We discussed it with all our head coaches," Hocutt said, "and that’s something we as an athletic department and we as a group of coaches feel strongly about at this time."

While this isn't as marquee of an rivalry as some of the others in the southwest, these two in-state rivals have endured a long relationship that always provided quality entertainment for everyone involved. Texas A&M could potentially have lined up some other more high-profile non-conference games and are balking on signing a deal with Tech....or they could just be sticking it to their rivals one last time.
