2013 Texas A&M Football Recruiting: Aggies Land Defensive End Jay Arnold

Make that 14 recruits for Kevin Sumlin and the Texas A&M Aggies for the class of 2013, as defensive end Jay Arnold was the latest to join the list, as he confirmed via his personal Twitter account.

Arnold is the only defensive end commit thus far in his class for A&M, and chose the school over offers from others that included Baylor, Ole Miss, Tulsa and Purdue.

The school has been on Arnold's - who is from the Dallas area - radar for some time, and he said this about his decision:

My first visit to A&M was my sophomore year when Sherman was still the head coach. I was really impressed with the program but something really didn't click. I pressed on but then Coach Sumlin's staff came in and I went down to their junior day on the 18th of February and I just hit it off with the staff. Then, I realized this is the place I wanted to be at. I took some more trips but my feelings for A&M never changed. I decided it was time to commit to A&M.

Kevin Sumlin Not Wasting Time On Recruiting Front

Texas A&M struck again this weekend, signing six high-profile prospects to their 2013 recruiting class. Bud Elliot over at SBNation.com runs through all of them with some video to back it up.

The prize of the batch seems to be Dallas Jesuit offensive tackle J.J. Gustafson. The 6-foot-6 left tackle should provide a replacement for Jake Matthews or Luke Joekel once those two move on for greener pastures. It's also an interesting case for why Sumlin made the move from the University of Houston to Texas A&M. UH couldn't get these kinds of prospects on their offensive line as easily as the Aggies, which had to be appealing for Sumlin.

I've actually seen one of the running back prospects that signed. Pearland Dawson's James White rushed for 145 yards and two touchdowns on 15 carries against Nederland in the regional quarterfinals last season. That offense was a typical spread look, but White was a good mix of both speed and power. The Nederland defense was very good, so for a back to come in and run that effectively was impressive.

He's the type of prospect who could be more widely regarded after his senior season than he is right now.

Kerrick Huggins Becomes Texas A&M's Seventh Commit For 2013 Class

Defensive tackle Kerrick Huggins became the seventh verbal commit in the 2013 class for Texas A&M. Huggins is a 6-foot-3, 283 pound defensive end from Dallas Skyline high school. Huggins is rated as a four-star recruit by Rivals and is rated No. 154 in their initial top 250 for 2013.

Huggins also had offers from SMU, Colorado State, North Texas and Texas Tech, and He also was receiving interest from Texas, Oklahoma, Oregon, Mississippi State and Arkansas. Ultimately Huggins chose Texas A&M because he said it was the only school in Texas where he could play in the SEC.

Huggins was recruited by wide receivers David Beaty and that was one reason why Huggins choose Texas A&M:

"Coach Beaty started talking to me on Facebook a couple of months ago. I like him a lot; he's a cool dude," he said. "And they said that when I got there, I'd have a chance to come in and get some playing time right away."

Texas A&M is starting to put together a very nice 2013 class, so far they have four recruits who are rated as four stars by Rivals and six being ranked in the ESPN 150.

2013 Texas A&M Football Recruiting: Aggies Land Three Commitments From Rivals Top 250

With new coach Kevin Sumlin following up on the aggressive early tone set by Mike Sherman, Texas A&M has hit the recruiting trail hard in 2013, racking up commitments from three four-star recruits rated among the Top 250 nationally by Rivals.

While the Aggies are out of the running for the state's only five-star prospect, 6'5 dual-threat QB Tyrone Swoopes, they've already secured offers from the No. 19 (Rosenberg WR Derrick Griffin), No. 63 (Elysian Fields DT Isaiah Golden) and No. 181 (Houston QB Kohl Stewart) players in the country.

Griffin, a 6'6 215 WR who runs the 40-yard dash in 4.61 seconds, is also a top basketball recruit and the No. 9 rated player in the state on the hardwood.

Here's a highlight film from his junior season:

Golden, a 6'2 295 defensive tackle, has impressive athleticism for his size, running the 40-yard dash in 4.86 seconds and moon-lighting as a full-back for his high school team.

Here's a highlight film from his sophomore season:

Stewart, a 6'3 185 pro-style QB who plays for St. Pius in Houston, received interest from LSU but was always seen as a likely Aggie commit, as both of his parents went to Texas A&M.

Here's a highlight tape from his sophomore season:
