The Lamar Cardinals get NCAA Tournament action started with a match up against Vermont

The Lamar Cardinals and Vermont Catamounts play in field of 68 NCAA Tournament teams on Wednesday night in Dayton, Ohio.

The Cardinals have the scoring advantage, averaging 73.9 points compared to the Catamounts' 67.2 points. Senior Mike James leads Lamar with 17 points a game. Seniors Devon Lamb, Anthony Miles and Charlie Harper also play key roles for the team.

Defensively, the Catamounts only allow 60.5 points while Lamar gives up 65.4 points per contest, but sophomore Osas Ebomwonyi averages right around two blocks a game. Vermont shoots 44.3 percent from the field, while Lamar shoots 43.5 percent as a team.

Knight told the Beaumont Enterprise that Vermont reminds him of two Southland Conference teams that gave the Cardinals problems this season.

"I don't like them because they remind me of the two teams we had problems with in our league," Knight said. "They remind me a lot of Stephen F. Austin and Nicholls State. I love the way they run their offense. They run the flex offense, but they read out of it."
