Astros Send Pitcher Jordan Lyles To AAA Oklahoma City After Loss To Rangers

The Houston Astros have been using a juggling act with their pitching staff by calling up and sending down players on a feverish pace ever since right handed pitcher Kyle Weiland was placed on the disabled list last month. The latest player to be sent down to AAA Oklahoma City was Sunday's starting pitcher Jordan Lyles.

Lyles had a poor showing against the Texas Rangers as he lasted only five innings while giving up six runs, nine hits and walked three batters; while not surprisingly earning the loss. Somehow Lyles made it through two starts, because Astros general manager Jeff Luhnow has been calling up and sending down pitchers after their start, and overall just playing musical chairs with that one spot.

Luhnow will make the move on who to bring up sometime prior to Monday's game against the Chicago Cubs, recently it has been a pitcher, but with center fielder Jordan Schafer out for the next few days the replacement could be an outfielder this time around.

Astros Vs. Rangers Final Score: Houston Drops Series Finale 6-1

The Houston Astros couldn't avoid a big first inning from the Texas Rangers and went on to a 6-1 loss in the series finale.

Houston starter Jordan Lyles got in trouble early allowing the Rangers five first inning runs. Big hits in the inning came off of the bats of Nelson Cruz and pitcher Colby Lewis who both delivered two run singles.

Lyles did a good job of settling down after his first inning struggles but takes the loss after allowing nine hits and six runs in five innings. Five different Rangers players finished with at least two hits including Josh Hamilton who raises his average to .389.

Jose Altuve added two hits for the Astros and Jed Lowrie hit his sixth home run of the season in the ninth to account for the Astros only run of the game.

Colby Lewis snaps a personal three game losing streak pitching eight innings while allowing four hits and one run.

Astros Vs. Rangers Final Score: Houston Wins Game 2 Against Texas, 6-5

In Game 2 of the Silver Boot Series, the Houston Astros earned their first win by defeating the Texas Rangers 6-5. The Astros came back from a 4-0 deficit which included an inside the park home run by the Rangers David Murphy which accounted for three of the four runs in the third inning.

The Astros offense responded by scoring six runs through the third through sixth inning. During that stretch the Astros had home runs by Chris Snyder, Carlos Lee and Justin Maxwell; those home runs accounted for five of the Astros six runs. All of those home runs came off of Rangers starting pitcher Derek Holland.

Perhaps with this type of offensive output for the Astros with three home runs their offensive slump could be on the way out for the Astros.

Lucas Harrell earned the win for the Astros by throwing 5.2 innings, striking out six, giving up five hits including the inside the park home run but only had one earned run. Brett Myers pitched the ninth inning and earned his 10th save of the season.

Astros Vs. Rangers Final Score: Texas Beats Houston 4-1

In the first game of interleague play the Houston Astros offense continued to struggle offensively in their 4-1 loss to rival Texas Rangers. The lone run for the Astros came in the bottom of the third inning when Jed Lowrie reached first base on an infield single which knocked in Jose Altuve. On the night the Astros only managed four hits.

Astros starting pitcher Wandy Rodriguez had little help in the game as he only gave up three runs and 10 hits through six innings, but once again the offense was nowhere to be found.

The Rangers offense was led by Adrian Beltre who went 2-for-3 with two RBI, two runs plus he had a home run for good measure in the top of the seventh inning.
