This game between the Memphis Tigers and Houston Cougars had absolutely no affect on the Conference USA tournament as Memphis had already clinched a spot in the championship game by prior to this game.

The Conference USA baseball tournament continues pool play on Friday with three games. The big surprise of the tournament is that No. 5 seeded Memphis upset No. 1 seeded Rice 3-2, and has already clinched a berth to the championship game. If Memphis can get past No. 8 seeded Houston on Friday afternoon then they will finish pool play with a 3-0 record.
No. 2 seeded Central Florida is also in danger of following in Rice's footsteps of not making the championship game. UAB crushed Central Florida 15-1 in the first game of the tournament, and if Central Florida falls to East Carolina then they would be eliminated from playing in the championship game.

The University of Southern Mississippi defeated the Houston Cougars in the Conference USA Tournament by a final score of 8-7 in a game that took 10 innings to complete.
USM jumped out to an early 3-0 lead in the top of the third inning and by the sixth inning, found themselves ahead by a score of 4-1. But after scoring another run in the top of the seventh inning to bring the score to 5-1, but Houston came roaring back in the bottom of the frame by putting four tuns on the board to tie the game up at five runs apiece.
Southern Miss regained the lead by adding single runs in both the top of the eight and ninth innings to make the score 7-5, but in the bottom of the ninth, Houston fought back with two runs to send the game into extra innings.
USM would add another run in the top of the 10th inning to secure the victory.

The seventh seeded UAB Blazers completely demolished the second seeded UCF Golden Knights on Thursday in the 2012 Conference USA Baseball Tournament by a final score of 15-1.
After leading by a score of 2-1 through four innings, the the Blazers put up school record 13 runs in the top of the fifth inning. The game was called in the seventh inning due to the 10-run Conference USA Tournament rule.
In the record-setting fifth inning, the Blazers batted around two times as 18 different Blazer batters faced off against four different Golden Knight pitchers. The inning itself took a total of 49 minutes to complete. The inning featured seven hits, six walks, three wild pitches, two passed balls, two batters hit by pitches and two errors.
UAB finished the game with 17 hits with eight of the nine starters recording at least one hit and six who had multiple hits.

The Conference USA regular season baseball season has come to a close and Rice took two of three from Central Florida to clinch the overall seed for the C-USA post season tournament. Houston snuck into the tournament by holding of Marshall for the eighth and final spot.
Conference USA holds their tournament in pool play rather than bracket form, so each team will play three games within their pod and the team with the best record in each pod earns a spot in the championship game.

The 2012 Conference USA baseball tournament is set to begin on Wednesday, May 23.

The result of the game was Houston defeating Memphis 7-3 and the win for Houston gave them their first of the tournament. Houston got on the board first by scoring a run in the second inning when Codey Morehouse singled to center and knocked in Price Jacobs.
Houston would then go on to score three runs in the fourth and fifth innings to go up 7-0 by knocking around Memphis starter Michael Wills.
Morehouse led the way for Houston by going 2-for-4, three RBI and two scored two runs, and Matt Hernandez earned the win by tossing six innings, giving up six hits, three runs and struck out six batters.
