2012 C-USA Baseball Tournament Day 2: What To Watch

Here are some things to keep in mind during today's games at Trustmark Park in Pearl, MS:

UAB (7) vs UCF (2) 11:00

  • First game of the tournament for both teams
  • UCF has stolen 87 bases this season, 25 more than any other team
  • Patrick Palmeiro (son of Rafael) leads a UAB that went 3-7 in May in RBI (32), HR (5), and multi-RBI games (9)

Houston (8) vs Southern Miss (4) 3:00

  • USM reliever James McMahon gave up 6 hits and 5 runs in 0.2 innings in the Golden Eagles' 14-3 loss to Memphis
  • Cougar reliever Justin Ray took the loss and threw 49 pitches in Houston's 7-5 defeat against Rice Wednesday
  • Southern Miss stranded 13 runners on Wednesday

Memphis (5) vs Rice (1) 7:00

  • Memphis' 11-run margin of victory was its largest in conference tournament history
  • Rice left 12 runners on base and trailed until the bottom of the 7th inning in a 7-5 against Houston
  • Freshman reliever Josh Lemond threw 70 pitches in 4.2 innings of relief, so he's likely done for at least the next few days

Enjoy the games, everyone.
