Astros Vs. Pirates: Houston Shut Out 2-0 In 8th Straight Loss

The Astros bats were silent as the losing streak reach eight games with a 2-0 loss to the Pirates in Pittsburgh on Thursday.

Bud Norris allowed the two earned runs on five hits over seven innings and picked up the loss without any help. The Astros offense recorded just four singles, left five on base and went 0-for-6 with runners in scoring position.

Pittsburgh's first run came on a double in the second inning, while the second run came on a sac fly.

Houston was led at the plate by Jed Lowrie, who went 1-for-3 with a walk. The eight-game losing streak is a season-high. The last seven losses have come on the road, where Houston is 9-32. The good news is that the Astros now head home for a three-game series against the Brewers (before another lengthy road trip).

Astros Vs. Pirates Final Score: Houston Loses Again, 6-4

Houston's road woes continued on the Fourth of July, as the Astros fell to a staggering 9-31 (!) on the road, losing 6-4 to the Pittsburgh Pirates.

Houston starter Dallas Keuchel picks up his first ever loss in the big leagues, as he lasted just five and 2/3 innings. Keuchel gave up four runs on seven hits, while walking four and striking out two. Just 59 of Keuchel's 99 pitches were strikes.

Houston led 2-0 after the top of the second inning, thanks to a Jason Castro sacrifice fly in the first, and Brian Bogusevic RBI single in the top half of the second. Pittsburgh took the lead in the bottom half of the second, though, as Michael McKenry hit a sacrifice fly of his own, before Clint Barmes knocked in two with a single.

McKenry added to the lead in the fourth, with an RBI double, giving Pittsburgh a 4-2 lead. Jose Altuve would hit into a fielder's choice that plated Bogusevic in the fifth, but the Pirates plated two more runs on a Pedro Alvarez single in the seventh.

J.D. Martinez hit a solo homer for the Astros in the top of the ninth, but it wasn't enough as Houston lost 6-4.

Kevin Correria picked up the win for Pittsburgh. Correria pitched six innings, giving up three runs on six hits and two walks, while striking out one. Brad Lincoln and Jason Grilli each picked up a hold, pitching an inning in relief each, before giving way to Joel Hanrahan, who picked up his 21st save of the year.

Astros Vs. Pirates: Game 3 Preview, TV Info And More

The Astros are hoping an Independence Day matinee brings them freedom from an eight-game losing streak, their worst of the 2012 season. Dallas Keuchel has been strong in his short time with Houston, with a 1.35 ERA in 20 innings of work that includes a one-hit shutout.

Houston will have to create run support if they've got a hope of winning. In their first four games against Pittsburgh this season, the Astros scored a total of six runs before putting up seven in a single game during Tuesday's loss.

Date / Time: Wednesday, July 4, 12:35 p.m. CT

Location: PNC Park, Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania

TV: Fox Sports Houston

Radio: KTRH 740, KLAT 1010

The Astros had tied the game at seven in the top of the ninth on pinch-hit RBI-double from Jason Castro.

Astros Vs. Pirates: Game 2 Preview, TV Info And More

The Astros are on their lengthiest road losing streak of the season at seven games and are also riding a five game overall losing streak after losing to the Pirates in their series opener on Monday.

It was looking up for the Stros in the beginning, since they jumped out to an early 1-0 lead and didn't allow any Pittsburgh hits in the first inning. After that, the Bucs went off for 11 runs on 18 hits and the Stros could only watch.

Jordan Lyles made the point after the game that Pittsburgh had the better baseball players on Monday. Hopefully for the Stros, that's not the case on Tuesday, or we'll just see the losses pile up.

Lucas Harrell and A.J. Burnett are your starting pitchers in this one. Take a look at the game schedule and broadcast information:
