Despite having two entrants in the 200 meter women's butterfly, the United States failed to medal. China's Jiao Liuyang added to her country's medal count, bringing home the gold medal with a time of 2:04.06 -- over a second faster than Mireia Belmonte Garcia, who won the silver medal for Spain.

20 year old Houston native Cammile Adams finished in fifth, over two and a half seconds behind Liuyang. Adams, who attends Texas A&M, finished with a time of 2:06.78. Adams also finished behind fellow American Kathleen Hersey, who finished fourth with a time of 2:05.78.

Adams did improve upon her semifinal time, which was 2:07.33. Nevertheless, her improvement wasn't enough to land her a medal.

Japan's Natsumi Hoshi finished third with a time of 2:05.48, almost a full second and a half behind Liuyang.
