Will Les Miles allow Tyrann Mathieu back into the LSU Football program? SHOULD he? Those burning questions will remain unanswered for now.

Dismissed LSU Tigers cornerback Tyrann Mathieu was set to re-enroll at the school Tuesday following a rehab stint in Houston, according to reports.
The Heisman Trophy finalist won't see the field this season after being kicked off the team on Aug. 10 for reportedly failing multiple drug tests.
It seems as though "Honey Badger" is committed to re-joining the Tigers on the field in 2013 as opposed to transferring to another school, though head coach Les Miles and compliance officers have said Mathieu is permanently ineligible. Mathieu previously visited FCS schools NIcholls State and McNeese State, where he would've been eligible to play in 2012.
Mathieu's adoptive father Tyrone Mathieu told the Times-Picayune of Honey Badger's enrollment plans and stressed the star player's concern is more on academics than the football field.

The troubled ex-LSU star will seek the help of John Lucas

Despite an LSU compliance officer saying that Tyrann Mathieu is "permanently ineligible" to return to the university following dismissal for a failed drug test, the possibility of a return is something that many don't want to rule out.
The dream of a redemption story featuring a reformed and clean Mathieu in the 2013 season is one that LSU Tigers fans will cling to, but SB Nation's LSU blog, And The Valley Shook, warns that it may be an unrealistic hope:
It should also be noted that LSU's insistence over the last week of not commenting on Mathieu's future with the football team beyond this season and constant rebuttal of reports that he would never play for LSU again leaves open the possibility that he might one day return to LSU, though that still remains unlikely. Rehab is not a 2 semester course you just take, and drug addiction is something Mathieu will have to confront for possibly the rest of his life. I think we'd all like to see a cleaned up Mathieu rejoin the team next year in a great redemption story, but he has decided getting over his personal demons is a bigger priority.
Mathieu, the reigning winner of the Bednarik Award for the nation's top defensive back, is reportedly set to spend the 2012 season in Houston at a drug rehabilitation facility. Former NBA player and coach John Lucas is acting as his daily mentor.

After being dismissed by LSU for the 2012 season, All-American cornerback Tyrann Mathieu will reportedly sit out the season entirely, and instead remain in a drug rehab center in Houston, according to a report from WVUE, the FOX affiliate in New Orleans.
The WVUE report says that former NBA star John Lucas is acting as a daily mentor for Mathieu. Lucas had struggles with substance abuse of his own during his playing career, voluntarily entering into anti-drug and anti-alcohol treatment to stay in the NBA.
After a successful rehabilitation, Lucas eventually became a head coach in the NBA and has acted as a mentor for troubled athletes, including former LSU and Oakland Raiders quarterback, JaMarcus Russell.
Mathieu had the option to transfer to an FCS or lower level school and play in the 2012 season to prepare for entry to the 2013 NFL Draft, but will still have two more years of eligibility at the beginning of the 2013 season. LSU has said the reigning Bednarik Award winner is permanently ineligible at the school.

Louisiana State's compliance officer ended any speculation that recently-dismissed defensive back Tyrann Mathieu could return to the team in 2013.
Per the Shreveport Times, Bo Bahnsen, LSU's senior associate director for NCAA compliance, declared Mathieu "permanently ineligible" at LSU.
Mathieu was dismissed from LSU's team on Friday by Les Miles. Though neither Miles nor school officials can reveal the precise reason for Mathieu's dismissal because of privacy laws, reports have surfaced throughout the last week that Mathieu failed a drug test -- again.
With a return to LSU seemingly impossible, the Honey Badger may very well find himself playing football for McNeese State, where he visited on Friday. Since McNeese State is an FCS school, Mathieu would be eligible to play in 2012 should he transfer.

Reports surfaced Friday of Tyrann Mathieu transferring to McNeese State after it was announced that he was dismissed from the LSU football program. What a shake up for the Southland Conference if this is true. Suddenly, the Cowboys have to join Sam Houston State as the co-favorite to win the league title.
We don't want to jump to conclusions here, but there's this photo that indicates he's already been to the McNeese fieldhouse and it's only a matter of time before the it becomes official.
This makes the SHSU/McNeese game so much more interesting on October 20. Not only would a former Heisman Trophy finalist be entering Bowers Stadium, but it's the Bearkats' homecoming game as well.
Let's just see how this all plays out.

Friend of SB Nation and current CBS college football contributor Bruce Feldman is sort of confirming reports from LSU kicker and sometimes journalist Josh Jasper that the freshly dismissed Tyrann Mathieu will indeed play at McNeese State this fall:
Following up on the Josh Jasper tweet, Tyrann Mathieu is looking at transferring to McNeese State according to a source.
— Bruce Feldman (@BFeldmanCBS) August 10, 2012
Per Feldman, journalist and author of much acclaim and respect, Mathieu is examining McNeese as a potential landing spot. No offense Jasper, but that's likely the truest truth currently circulating the online community.
McNeese State, located 130 miles directly west of Baton Rogue, was the landing spot for Tennessee safety Janzen Jackson after he was dismissed for his part in a robbery in 2009.

Just a few hours after LSU officially announced they'd parted ways with Heisman runner-up Tyrann Mathieu for an undisclosed violation of team rules, LSU kicker Josh Jasper is Tweeting that the Honey Badger has already landed at nearby McNeese State, a FCS program in Lake Charles, Louisiana:
— Josh Jasper (@JoshJasper30) August 10, 2012
@tm7_era already transferred to McNeese! Staying in the boot#LA
At the moment there's no other confirmation that Mathieu has officially landed at McNeese than Jasper's Tweet, but the Cowboys - just 130 miles west of Baton Rogue on Interstate 10 - are a sensible destination for the St. Augustine High School graduate and New Orleans resident. McNeese has been a rotating opponent for LSU in recent years, as the Tigers usually keep one in-state opponent on the schedule each season.
McNeese State is currently ranked 27th among FCS programs for the 2012 season according to Phil Steele. The Cowboys open their schedule August 30 against Middle Tennessee State - and if Mathieu has joined the team, he'll play three games against in-state opponents (Northwestern State, Nichols and Southeastern Louisiana) in 2012.

Tyrann Mathieu was dismissed from the LSU football program, so what does this mean for the Honey Badger in 2012?
9 months ago Update 0 comments
Tyrann Mathieu's dismissal from the LSU football program has been a surprise for a lot of college football fans, who likely expected him be a Heisman Trophy candidate once again this season. It's not going to happen obviously. The SEC Defensive Player of the Year is going to have to finish his college career elsewhere.
SB Nation's college football editor Jason Kirk notes that Mathieu won't get to play this season on the FBS level unless he's given special clearance by the NCAA. But Division II programs are possibilities.
Kirk:
Ordinarily, this would be the signal for a move to Valdosta State, North Alabama, or any of the other Division II programs that have made their names by providing homes for wayward college football players kicked out by top programs. We'll have to wait and see where he ends up, but Joe Schad reported he'd already begun looking for a new home before the news broke.

LSU head coach Les Miles said he would miss his former Heisman candidate Tyrann Mathieu when he announced his dismissal from the team. It is unclear why Mathieu has been dismissed, but it suspected that it could be drug related, as his trouble has been in the past.
Last season, Mathieu was suspended for a game, reportedly for using synthetic marijuana, though reports were never confirmed by the team. If Mathieu was dismissed for a third drug related offense, it would have NCAA implications because he would be ineligible to play in 2012 for any school.
Here's some of what Miles had to say at the press conference:
"This is a very difficult day for our team," Miles said. "We lose a quality person, teammate and contributor to the program. However, with that being said, we have a standard that our players are held to and when that standard is not met, there are consequences.
"It's hard because we all love Tyrann. We will do what we can as coaches, teammates, and friends to get him on a path where he can have success. We are going to miss him."
