Jeremy Lin was the big pick-up of the offseason for the Houston Rockets. After a solid first season in New York that saw the birth of 'Linsanity', the Rockets took the chance to scoop him up when the Knicks refused to re-sign him. He's spent the time since then trying to get used to the idea of being the star name of an up-and-coming squad and he's only now getting used to being a part of the Rockets.
For his part, Lin is still just happy to have a home on an NBA team:
"Every once in a while I’ll take a look back and just be like, "I can’t believe this is happening," Lin said. "I had one of those moments this morning, just sitting in the training room with the big Houston Rockets logo. I was appreciating the fact I get to wake up and play basketball for a living. Those are things I try to remind myself of every day."
Rockets fans will get to see just what Lin can do for the Rockets when the NBA season begins in mid-October.

Rockets guard Jeremy Lin says he's lost weight, and he's feeling great, according to Houston Chronicle reporter Jonathan Feigen.
Lin spent his offseason rehabilitating a torn meniscus in his left knee that required surgery in March after signing a free agent contract with Houston.
Lin averaged 14.6 points, 6.2 assists, 3.1 rebounds and 1.6 steals in 26.9 minutes a game for the Knicks last season, before signing a restricted free agency deal with Houston this offseason. He was expected to re-sign with the Knicks, but they declined to match Houston's three-year, $25 million offer sheet.
He made 35 appearances before undergoing the arthroscopic surgery that ended his season. In the time he played, he became a sensation, and briefly revitalized the Knicks, who were without all-star forward Carmelo Anthony at the time.
The Rockets preseason schedule gets underway against the defending Western Conference champion Oklahoma City on Oct. 10 in Hidalgo, Texas.
Their regular season opener takes place Oct. 31 in Detroit against the Pistons.

The NBA's new collective bargaining agreement was instrumental in helping the Houston Rockets pry Jeremy Lin away from the New York Knicks in late-July, says SB Nation's Rockets blog The Dream Shake.
Since second-round picks aren't on the same salary structure -- nor do they have the same contract limits -- as first-rounders, they cannot earn more than the league's mid-level exception until they have been in the league for three full years. At that point, the second-rounders can become eligible for their max extensions. So, due to the fact that the Knicks were above the cap at the time and the Rockets were not, the Knicks would have had trouble being able to sign their first-round picks from this season because of the cap hit.
As bad as Los Angeles’ model of purchasing a team is the Rockets have been just as underhanded by sticking it to large market teams to pry away important role players or potential studs (Some 2nd round picks do surprise us, I will never deny that). The CBA glossed over the rights of players drafted from pick 31 on and that will need to be addressed.
The Dream Shake has further analysis on Lin's situation, as well as other key areas of the league's new CBA. Be sure to check it out.

President Barack Obama hasn't tried too hard to hide his love for the game of basketball, sitting courtside at some games and annually filling out his NCAA Tournament bracket on ESPN.
In the middle of a re-election campaign against Republican nominee Mitt Romney, Obama used a basketball metaphor to describe his presidential race against Romney. Via the New York Times:
"We're the Miami Heat, and he's Jeremy Lin," Mr. Obama said, according to the aide.
Lin, now a member of the Houston Rockets, took the league by storm in early 2012 as a member of the New York Knicks, sparking a winning streak for the team. However, an injury derailed his season and the Knicks were bounced from the playoffs early while the Miami Heat won the NBA Finals.

Jeremy Lin was 'the big get' for the Houston Rockets over the offseason, snatching up the young Taiwanese point guard from the New York Knicks after a contract dispute forced him out of the Big Apple. He joined a Rockets team that has been in limbo for years since injury problems starting to haunt Yao Ming.
Lin has brought excitement to the Rockets, but is he the player that might have to carry the team through 2012/2013? Rockets blog The Dream Shake thinks that it might not be a one-man team with Lin carrying everyone else, but losing him would render the team unwatchable:
If you thought the Rockets had problems with stagnating offenses the last three seasons, the performance the Rockets would put on without Lin would cause you to throw your remote through your tv screen. Kevin McHale would be too busy drinking his sorrows away to draw up any plays and the team would fall flat on its face.
Until newly drafted Royce White starts to become ready for prime time in NBA action as a legitimate threat on the offense, Lin may remain the most important player for the Rockets' fortunes, at least offensively, for the entire 2012/2013 season.
