Texas A&M Fall Practice: Kevin Sumlin Says Quarterback Race Will Be Settled Soon

Stay connected for news and updates

There are four viable candidates to start for Texas A&M at quarterback when the Aggies begin life in the SEC on August 30 at Louisiana Tech. Which of those four - Jameill Showers, Johnny Manziel, Matt Joeckel or Matt Davis - is still an unanswered question. In an interview with ESPN, head coach Kevin Sumlin said that his team will have an answer fairly soon:

As for the timetable on officially naming a starter? After practice on Tuesday, Sumlin said the situation will "shake itself out in the next week or so."

Of the four, Showers has the most experience in age and snaps. As a redshirt sophomore, Showers saw actual game time, and is considered by some as the best pure passer. Conversely, the true freshman Davis was called "probably the best pure athlete" of the four by quarterbacks coach and former Texas Tech record-setting QB Kliff Kingsbury.
