Astros Pitcher Mickey Storey Struck In The Face By Line Drive (Video)

Houston Astros rookie pitcher Mickey Storey was struck in the face by a come-back line drive Wednesday night off the bat of the Chicago Cubs' Dave Sappelt. The good news: Zachary Levine of the Houston Chronicle tweeted later Wednesday evening that Storey was "totally fine" and "wants back on the mound ASAP."

The accident occurred in the top of the eighth inning of the Astros' 5-1 loss. Storey attempted to field or knock down the ball off Seppelt's bat, but he couldn't react in time to stop the ball from striking his face. Storey exited the game after trainers tended to him for several minutes on the field.

It's always amazing to think about how this doesn't happen more often in baseball, but the play was strikingly similar to last week's liner that left Oakland Athletics starter Brandon McCarthy with a fractured skull.

Astros Vs. Cubs Game Recap: Houston Drops Series Finale, 5-1

The Houston Astros lost the final game of their three-game series against the Chicago Cubs on Wednesday night, 5-1.

Houston's offense struggled to get going, managing only six hits in the game and four off Cubs starter Travis Wood. Wood (6-11) pitched 7 2/3 innings, giving up one run and striking out six.

The Astros' lone run came in the eighth when Fernando Martinez pinch-hit an RBI single to score Brandon Barnes immediately after Wood was replaced by Shawn Camp. Fernandez is 9-for-19 in September, via MLB.com's Brian McTaggert.

Chicago opened the scoring with an RBI single from Welington Castillo in the first inning. Alfonso Soriano pushed the lead to 2-0 with a solo homer in the fifth and to 3-0 with an RBI single in the seventh.

The Cubs' Anthony Recker added an RBI double in the eighth, and Tony Campana scored on a Chris Snyder throwing error in the ninth.

Houston used six pitchers in the game, including Mickey Storey, who took a liner in the face from Dave Sappelt in the eighth and had to leave the game. Fernando Abad (0-4) started and took the loss after giving up one run and four hits in 3 1/3 innings.

The Astros scored one run in each of the three games in the series, dropping two of three. They will open a four-game home series against the Philadelphia Phillies on Thursday night at 7:05 p.m. CT.

Astros Vs. Cubs Preview: Houston Hosts Chicago For Series Rubber Game

A day after sacrificing home the only run of the game, the Houston Astros will seek a series victory over the Chicago Cubs at home on Wednesday.

Houston will go with left-hander Fernando Abad, who is 0-3 with a 5.30 ERA on the season, to start against Cubs fellow lefty Travis Wood, who brings a 5-11 record and 4.42 ERA to the mound.

The Astros are winners of five of their last 10 games after Tuesday night's 1-0 win, which came courtesy of center fielder Justin Maxwell's sacrifice fly that scored second baseman Jimmy Paredes in the third inning and a six-pitcher combined shutout of the Cubs.

Houston starting pitcher Jordan Lyles earned the win, upping his record to 4-11, allowing just two hits and striking out five in five innings of work. Reliever Wilton Lopez notched his fourth save of the season after giving up two hits in the ninth.

First pitch is scheduled for 8:05 p.m. ET on Wednesday at Minute Maid Park, and the game can be seen on Fox Sports Southwest.

Astros Vs. Cubs Final Score: Houston Hangs On To Slip By Chicago, 1-0

On a night where both offenses were next to nonexistent, the Houston Astros managed the lone run of the game to edge the Chicago Cubs, 1-0, on Tuesday night in Minute Maid Park.

Following a one-out single by second baseman Jimmy Paredes in the bottom of the third inning, left fielder Fernando Martinez reached first on a throwing error by Cubs catcher Steve Clevenger, advancing Paredes to third in the process. Center fielder Justin Maxwell then drove in the deciding run by lifting a sacrifice fly to right field.

Jordan Lyles (W, 4-11) started on the mound for Houston, setting the tone with five scoreless innings, allowing two hits and striking out five.

The Astros committed four errors in the field, but used six total pitchers on the night who combined to surrender only six hits in the shutout, striking out nine Cubs while walking only two.

The Cubs and Astros will reconvene for the rubber match of the series on Wednesday, with lefty Travis Wood (5-11, 4.42 ERA) starting for Chicago while Fernando Abad (0-3, 5.30 ERA) takes the hill for Houston.

First pitch is set for 8:05 p.m. ET and will be televised on Fox Sports Southwest.

The Houston Astros (44-97) dropped the first game of a three-game series against the Chicago Cubs (55-86), 4-1, on Monday night at Minute Maid Park.

Dave Sappelt went 2-for-5 with 3 RBIs for Chicago. He started the scoring with an RBI double in the second inning, then scored on a wild pitch in the sixth to break a 1-1 tie. His two-run double in the seventh put his team up by three runs and that's how the game would end.

Astros Vs. Cubs Score Update: Teams Tied At 1 After 4 Innings

The Houston Astros have the worst record in the majors, but they had at least won their last five home games against the Chicago Cubs coming into their three-game set at Minute Maid Park. On Monday night, however, the score is tied 1-1 after four innings.

Dave Sappelt gave the Cubs a 1-0 lead in the second inning with an RBI double.

The Astros' Justin Maxwell led off the fourth inning with a triple and then scored on a Jason Castro single to tie the game.

Pitching against the Cubs for the first time in his career, Dallas Keuchel gave up one run and six hits in four innings, with one strikeout and two walks. Brandon Laird pinch-hit for Keuchel in the fourth inning, so Houston will have a new pitcher at the top of the fifth.

Chris Volstad has given up one run and three hits in four innings, with three strikeouts and three walks.
