Houston Vs. UCLA: Cougars Make More Adjustments After 0-2 Start

Tony Levine is shaking up his defense after the Cougars got blasted for 64 points against Louisiana Tech.

Through just two games, the Tony Levine era at Houston is uh... well... topping the charts (sorta):

While the offense was the focal point of their first loss to Texas State, the Cougars were blasted on defense by Louisiana Tech, who scored 56 points. Levine blamed tackling and poor pass rush on during his weekly press conference, and also announced several key personnel changes on defense. Freshman nickel back Trevon Stewart will start at free safety Saturday at UCLA, and Colton Valencia will start at strong safety. On the defensive line, Joey Mbu will replace Dominic Mille.

Levine also told the Houston Chronicle more changes on the depth chart could be coming, and as early as this week

"We’re not going to stop many people or win very many football games defensively tackling like that."

Levine said the mistakes "are correctable" and the Cougars will focus on fixing things in practice this week.

"A lot of it is technique, maybe some of it is personnel," Levine said. "Guys being out of control, guys ducking their head. If you duck your head and close your eyes … if you don’t see it you’re not going to tackle it."
