Rice Vs. Marshall: Owls Trail At Halftime, 21-14

The Rice Owls trail at halftime against Marshall, 21-14. In the first quarter, these teams traded touchdowns and Marshall finished the first quarter with a 14-7 lead. The second quarter saw similar results, as Marshall set the tone with a score and Rice responded.

Kevin Grooms cracked the scoreboard first with a 17-yard touchdown run. Rice running back Turner Petersen answered on a 30-yard touchdown scamper of his own to even the score.

Marshall, however closed the quarter with another trip to the end zone, with Steward Butler rushing for a 57-yard touchdown. Marshall took a two-touchdown lead in the second quarter on a five-yard pass from Rakeem Cato to Kevin Grooms.

But Rice chipped into the lead when Taylor McHargue connected with Donte Moore for a 43-yard touchdown pass.

McHargue completed just 50 percent of his passes including that touchdown in the first half, compared to Marshall's Cato who completed 78 percent of his passes and a touchdown toss.
