The Houston Astros (42-95) finished a three-game series in Pittsburgh with a 6-3 loss to the Pirates (72-64) on Wednesday night. The Astros were nearly silenced until the final inning.
Pittsburgh starter Kevin Correia (10-8) spread four Houston hits across six innings, and gave up just one run on the night to pick up the win. Third baseman Brandon Laird was the lone bright spot for the Astros, hitting a two-run homer in the top of the ninth off Pirates reliever Jason Grilli.
Houston did total eight hits on the night, though no Astro was able to post multiple hits during the game. After picking up their first run in the fourth, Houston left the bases loaded when catcher Carlos Corporan grounded into a double play to end the inning.
Fernando Abad (0-3) took the loss for the Astros, who take a day off on Thursday before opening a three-game series in Cincinnati on Friday.

Although they saw a familiar foe on the mound in former ace Wandy Rodriguez, the Houston Astros still couldn't get the better of the Pittsburgh Pirates on Tuesday night in a 6-2 loss.
Rodriguez, who won 80 games with the Astros dating back to the 2005 season, posted seven innings of four-hit ball against his old team to pick up his 10th victory of 2012 and his third since joining the Pirates. At the other end of the spectrum, Houston right-hander Jordan Lyles did not far quite as well in his outing however, as the 21-year-old left after just 4.2 innings after serving up five runs on seven hits.
Offensively, All-Star second baseman Jose Altuve swiped his 28th base of the season in addition to going 1-for-4 from the plate. Infielder Brett Wallace also followed up his 3-for-4 performance in game one with an RBI double. Seeking to wrap up their trip to PNC Park on a high note, the Astros will send Fernando Abad to the hill on Wednesday looking to win the three-game series.

Tuesday's game between the Astros and Pirates was delayed right from the start because of a heavy rainstorm that ran over Pittsburgh. Fortunately, the rain has died down and the game has now finally been scheduled to restart at 7:20 p.m. CT, as reported by MLB.com beat writer Brian McTaggert on Twitter.

There may be more rain in the forecast for Pittsburgh as the game goes along, so there's no guarantee that the game is going to finish on Tuesday night. Hopefully, the teams can play a quick and tidy game as the Astros seek their second straight win at PNC Park.

Rain started to hit Pittsburgh shortly before the start of the game between the Houston Astros and Pittsburgh Pirates, halting the game before it even began. Wandy Rodriguez is scheduled to take on Jordan Lyles in Tuesday's contest as the Astros go for two straight wins over the playoff-seeking Pirates in Pittsburgh.
And it just started pouring at PNC Park, right at 7:05 p.m. ET. We're in a delay.

With the level of rain that is currently hitting the field, it's unlikely that the game will start any time soon either, with a start time after 8:30 p.m. ET likely. There may be more rain on the way for Pittsburgh as well, which could mean that game two of the Astros-Pirates series might not happen on Tuesday at all.

Coming off a series-opening 5-1 win against the Pittsburgh Pirates on Monday, the Houston Astros will try to make it two in a row Tuesday night.
If the Astros were to win their second game in a row, it would be only the second time they've won consecutive games since the All-Star break. The other instance was a series of back-to-back wins against the Milwaukee Brewers on Aug. 10 and 11.
The Astros have only won at least two games in a row eight times this season.
Here are the lineups.
For the Astros:
1. 2B Jose Altuve (R)
2. SS Tyler Greene (R)
3. 1B Brett Wallace (L)
4. CF Justin Maxwell (R)
5. C Jason Castro (L)
6. RF Matt Downs (R)
7. LF Jimmy Paredes (S)
8. 3B Brandon Laird (R)
9. P Jordan Lyles (R)
For the Pirates:
1. 2B Brock Holt (L)
2. RF Travis Snider (L)
3. CF Andrew McCutchen (R)
4. 1B Garrett Jones (L)
5. 3B Pedro Alvarez (L)
6. C Michael McKenry (R)
7. LF Alex Presley (L)
8. SS Clint Barmes (R)
9. P Wandy Rodriguez (R)
Rodriguez will face his old team for the second time. His first appearance for the Pirates on July 28 was against Houston. His line that day: Six innings, six hits, three runs (all earned), five strikeouts and five walks. The Pirates won, 4-3.
First pitch at PNC Park in Pittsburgh is at 6:05 p.m. CT.

One of the few things that the Houston Astros can still do with their lost 2012 season is play spoiler to those still in the playoff races, and they landed a blow to the Pittsburgh Pirates by defeating them on Monday. They'll get two more chances as well, starting Tuesday with Game 2 of the series.
Houston fans will see a familiar face on the mound for the Pirates, as Wandy Rodriguez is slated to start. Rodriguez (9-13, 3.86) is not having his best season but is still putting up quality numbers for a Pirates team that is very close to contending. Houston will counter their former star with Jordan Lyles (3-10, 5.46), who will be seeking his second win in three games after a long streak of nothing but losses and no decisions.
The game will be at 6:05 p.m. CT at PNC Park.

The Houston Astros upset the Pirates, 5-1, on Monday in Pittsburgh. The game was highlighted by a three-run bomb by Brett Wallace. The first baseman recorded three hits on the day and got help from shortstop Tyler Greene, who scored three runs as the Astros improved their eye-sore of a record to 42-93.
Pittsburgh's record dropped to 70-64 on the season. Houston put up seven hits and five earned runs on Pirates starting pitcher Jeff Locke, who lasted five innings. Astros starting pitcher Edgar Gonzalez lasted 5.1 innings while giving up five hits and one earned run.
The Astros were quick to get on the board, loading the bases in the first inning with no outs. After a fielder's choice, a Matt Downs sacrifice allowed Greene to score from third. Greene was driven home in similar fashion during the third inning by Justin Maxwell, and Wallace hit his three-run shot in the top of the fifth to give the Astros a 5-0 advantage.
The Pirates responded in the bottom of the fifth, when Clint Barmes's single scored Pedro Alvarez from third. They wouldn't score again in the opener of this three-game series.
Garrett Jones had three hits for the Pirates.
