Kevin Sumlin Accuses Florida Players Of 'Flopping' Against Texas A&M

Texas A&M Aggies coach Kevin Sumlin spent Tuesday talking to the media about what he didn't like from his team's performance Saturday in a loss to Florida. He also took a shot at the Florida Gators for what he seems to have felt were theatrics on the field. Per A&M writer Brent Zwerneman:

Sumlin said his team appeared in good shape in the opener against Florida and "it wasn’t our team flopping around on the field in the second half." I asked him if the Gators’ "flopping around" was because of conditioning or something else. "You were there," he responded.

Sumlin didn't specify a particular player or play in the game, although the phrasing seems to imply that the coach wasn't talking about flopping in its normally used sports sense - players exaggerating injuries or contact to draw fouls against another team - but rather conditioning. Florida did have a number of players suffer cramps in the game Saturday.

College Football Rankings: Texas A&M Unranked After Loss To Florida

n the latest SB Nation Blogpoll, a college football ranking system built on votes from the various college blogs around the SBN network, there was no love for the Texas A&M Aggies. After falling to the No. 17 Florida Gators, 20-17, they ended up unranked. They didn't even make the cut into the 'additional votes' category.

Two schools from Texas did make the cut into the Blogpoll top-25. The Texas Longhorns and TCU Horned Frogs are No. 14 and No. 15, respectively. Interestingly, the Rice Owls managed to make the cut of teams that got additional votes after their upset win over the Kansas Jayhawks.

Alabama, LSU and USC rounded out the top three in the latest rankings, with those three schools garnering all but one of the first place votes. The No. 14 Ohio State Buckeyes got the other first place selection.

Florida Vs. Texas A&M 2012: Final Score And Game Recap

Despite earning a ten-point lead in the second quarter and consistently harassing Florida quarterback Jeff Driskel throughout Saturday's game, the Texas A&M Aggies were unable to beat the Gators and lost 20-17.

Freshman quarterback Johnny Manziel looked very good in the loss for the Aggies completing 22 of 29 pass attempts for 169 yards. He also added 63 yards rushing and gave Texas A&M the lead in the second quarter with an 11-yard touchdown run.

However, the Aggies were unable to score in the second half at all and gave up a 12-yard touchdown run to Mike Gillislee early in the fourth quarter to fall behind. Despite, eight sacks of Gators quarterback Driskel, the Aggies never forced a turnover and lost the game of field position.

Box Score Hero: Texas A&M junior defensive lineman Damontre Moore recorded three sacks in the first half alone as the Aggies line terrorized Florida.

Rankings Ramifications:*Florida entered the game as No. 24 in the AP Poll while Texas A&M earned some votes, but did not appear on the rankings. The win may be enough to move the Gators up the poll some, but they were unimpressive in victory for a second straight week so don't expect a surge.

But Did They Cover? Texas A&M were one-point favorites and were unable to cover.

Texas A&M Vs. Florida Score Update: Aggies Lead 17-13 After 3 Quarters

At the end of three quarters of play, the Texas A&M Aggies lead the Florida Gators 17-13. Both defenses had a good quarter and the only points put up on the board was a 25-yard field goal by Caleb Sturgis.

That field goal was scored on Florida's first drive of the quarter, but after that no other team could hold down a sustainable drive to get points. Both of the Texas A&M drives were 3-and-outs, while the other for Florida was slightly better as they had a seven play drive.

Heading into the fourth quarter, Texas A&M has the ball, and that drive will be key if they are to get some points on the board and try to create some breathing room between them and Florida.

Texas A&M Vs. Florida: Aggies Roll To 17-10 Lead At Halftime

After the first half of play in Texas A&M's first-ever SEC game, the Aggies are faring very well against the famed SEC speed, leading the Florida Gators, 17-10.

Freshman quarterback Johnny Manziel completed 15 of his 19 passing attempts in the first half for 138 yards and added 51 yards rushing on eight carries. Early in the second quarter, an 11-yard touchdown run by Manziel gave the Aggies the lead and they have not relinquished it.

Defensively, Texas A&M has consistently harassed Florida quarterback Jeff Driskell, recording five first-half sacks already. The sole touchdown by the Gators was a 4-yard run by Mike Gillislee late in the first quarter and a 51-yard field goal by Caleb Sturgis late in the half cut the Aggies lead to seven.

Aggies junior defensive lineman Damontre Moore recorded three sacks in the first half alone.

Florida Vs. Texas A&M 2012: Schedule, Game Time, Spread And More

Although it wasn't originally supposed to be, Saturday's game against the Florida Gators will be the first of the season for the Texas A&M Aggies. After the threat of Hurricane Isaac postponed their opener against Louisiana Tech to Oct. 13, the Aggies will instead start of their season with a conference game in their first ever appearance as a member of the SEC.

The Gators struggled in their first game of the season, limping to a 27-14 victory in a game that was tied as late as the third quarter. The struggling offense without a defined starter completed 13-of-21 combined passes between Jeff Driskel and Jacoby Brissett for 145 yards passing.

Had it not been for 148 yards rushing and two touchdowns from Mike Gillislee on 24 carries, the damage could've been worse for the Gators that fell out of the rankings. Following the struggles in their opener, Florida enters their matchup against Texas A&M as underdogs, although the line is very close.

Game Time: 2:30 p.m. CT at Kyle Field in College Station, TX

TV Schedule: ESPN

Odds: Texas A&M favored by 1.5 points

Texas A&M Vs. Florida: Aggies Scouting Boise State To Prep For Gators

The Texas A&M Aggies have been watching tape of Boise State to prepare for their first SEC conference game against the Florida Gators, according to Brent Zwerneman of the Houston Chronicle.

The move makes sense since current Gators offensive coordinator Brent Pease came from Boise State last season. And with Florida using a vanilla game plan against a lesser Bowling Green team last Saturday, the Aggies prefer to go straight to the larger body of work for scouting assistance.

Here's what A&M defensive coordinator Mark Snyder has to say on the subject:

"I've watched Brent Pease over the years at Boise, and I know his offense has a lot more to it than what I saw Saturday [against Bowling Green]. It was a typical first game. You want to establish the line of scrimmage, run the football, play-action pass, things like that."

A&M safety Steven Terrell also acknowledges in the article that the team has been watching Boise State tape since as late as last week stating "whatever most coordinators do at their last stop, they bring with them."

The Aggies kick off their season at 2:30 p.m. CT at College Station against the Gators (1-0).

Texas A&M Vs. Florida: Aggies Run Defense Could Be Key

Do you like cold, hard numbers and statistics behind your SEC pre-game coverage? New Texas A&M SB Nation blog Good Bull Hunting has you covered.

The Aggies begin the SEC era Saturday when they open their season against No. 23 Florida. Using an algorithm of his own making (and one he goes in detail to explain), SpreadsheetAG takes a look at how the Aggies stack up against the Gators based on 2011 statistics and a multitude of other factors.

Texas A&M's run defense was particularly stingy in 2011, which could bode well for the Aggies against new Florida starting running back Mike Gillislee. The Aggies allowed only 101 yards rushing per game last season. The Gators' defense looked uncharacteristically bad against Bowling Green in last weekend's victory, which might be good news to an Aggies passing attack that looks to be more up-tempo under new coach Kevin Sumlin.

Texas A&M Vs. Florida: Gators Name Jeff Driskel Starting QB

Texas A&M knows which quarterback it will face in its SEC opener Saturday against No. 23 Florida. The Gators named Jeff Driskel their starting quarterback Monday after a solid performance in the team's opening win over Bowling Green.

Driskel beat out fellow sophomore Jacoby Brissett after completing 10-of-16 passes for 114 yards and a touchdown against the Falcons. Driskel played the second quarter and the entire second half, staying on the field for 52 of the Gators' 63 offensive snaps. Brissett managed only a 3-of-5 performance with 31 yards on 11 offensive snaps.

Driskel's first career start will be the Aggies' season opener. The SEC matchup at Kyle Field Saturday is set for a 2:30 p.m. kickoff and will be televised by ESPN. The Aggies' scheduled opener was against Louisiana Tech last weekend, but the threat of Hurricane Isaac postponed the game until Oct. 13.
