Astros Vs. Reds Game Recap: Houston Wins On Matt Dominguez Homer

Stay connected for news and updates

The Houston Astros' Matt Dominguez belted a three-run homer in the top of the ninth to defeat the Cincinnati Reds, also ending Aroldis Chapman's streak of 27 consecutive saves.

Houston struck first with a two-run Justin Maxwell home run. Cincinnati answered with two runs of their own in the first. Cincinnati went up 3-2 in the 5th when a Jay Bruce single brought in Chris Heisley. From there Cincinnati's pitchers controlled the game, allowing only two more hits through the 8th.

In the 9th though, Aroldis Chapman, having converted his previous 27 save opportunities, allowed Tyler Greene and J.D. Martinez to reach base, both on bloop singles. Those singles then proved costly, as Matt Dominguez belted a three-run homer with one out in the top of the ninth. Chapman closed out the inning but ended up with the loss.

Wilton Lopez closed the game for Houston, earning the Save. Hector Ambriz received the win.
