Dominique Booth to announce Friday: Tennessee is his leader

Dominique Booth, a consensus four-star wide receiver prospect in the class of 2014, is set to make his college choice on Friday at 4 p.m. ET. The Pike High School (Ind.) standout will choose between Alabama, Tennessee, Florida State and Vanderbilt, and the Volunteers appear to have the inside track. He holds scholarship offers from numerous other power-conference programs as well.

Booth, who stands 6'1 and weighs 200 pounds, is considered by 247Sports to be the top player from the state of Indiana and the 26th-best wide receiver in the class. As a junior in 2012 he caught 67 passes for 853 yards and 13 touchdowns. Like 247Sports, both Scout and Rivals consider him a four-star prospect.

Booth took unofficial visits to all four of his finalists in April, with his most recent trip going to Vanderbilt.

EJ Manuel says Bills' offense 'easier' than FSU's

EJ Manuel likes what he's seen of the Buffalo Bills' offense so far -- he's actually finding the adjustment to the Bills' system easy compared to what he had to learn at Florida State. That could help him earn the starting nod sooner rather than later.

"The funny thing is it's easier to learn than the offense I had at Florida State," he told SiriusXM NFL Radio. "It's a true West Coast-type progression offense. That's really what I wanted when I was coming through the pre-draft process. I wanted something that I could just go in and say 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, check it down and run it. That's it, it's that simple. I love it."

Additionally, Manuel says that the option will not be a part of the Bills' offense. He showed good speed at the NFL Combine, running a 4.65 40-yard dash, but he also lacks familiarity with that style of play, which may be a factor in the team's decision to keep those wrinkles out of the playbook. He did run for more than 300 yards during his senior season, but he averaged only about seven rushing attempts per game. The Seminoles didn't ask him to take on a dual-threat role, and the Bills won't either.

Here's the Sun Belt Conference's new logo

The Sun Belt's new logo, which might or might not represent the spinning wheel used to select new conference members, was unveiled by the league on Monday. Along with the new logo, the league has a new slogan: "Together We Rise." Togetherness is not a word one would associate with the Sun Belt, given the number of defections from the league recently, but this time it's sure to be different.

Directional school rivalries torn asunder. Aimless conference executives enduring existential crises. Institutions lost to Conference USA. That's how a league like the Sun Belt ends up here. New slogans amid old tears. For his part, commissioner Karl Benson is putting on a brave face:

"The unveiling of our new logo comes after months of review of how we wanted to express the ‘new' Sun Belt Conference," said Sun Belt Conference Commissioner Karl Benson. "It is a very exciting chance for us to display the opportunity and optimism that exists in the Sun Belt Conference as we move forward."

Nothing could inspire a renewed sense of optimism like the additions of Georgia State and Idaho, not to mention the addition of [school as determined by flick of spinner].

Alabama auctions broken BCS title trophy for $105,000

Alabama recently auctioned off its broken 2011 BCS national title trophy, which when intact was valued around $30,000, for more than $100,000. The crystal football was accidentally broken last spring by Carlton Tinker, the father of former Crimson Tide long snapper Carson, resulting in the shattered remains that ended up being sold for such a hefty price over the weekend. A member of Reddit took a photo at the auction of what was left of the trophy, which you can view here.

The mishap occurred not long after Alabama won the national championship by beating LSU. Carlton had the opportunity to touch the trophy and said he placed the crystal football back on its stand, but then, well...

"In my mind, it was slow motion," Tinker said, "as it rolled off the top of the trophy case onto the table onto the floor. I'm not sure if I bumped the table when I turned around, or if my foot caught on the large tablecloth they had draped and puddled on the floor. That's exactly what happened."

It ended up working out OK for all parties involved, though. Nick Saban, in typical fashion, shrugged the whole thing off and assured Carson after the initial incident that Alabama would win another one. (He was being modest: Alabama will win 14 more, this past season's title included.)

If he were to be honest with himself, Saban would say that winning national championships has become so routine that he truly appreciates the break from routine that is an accidental destruction of the BCS trophy. Hell, he's been using one of those crystal footballs as a snifter for damn near a decade just to break the monotony.
