Astros Try To Get Revenge On Wolf

(Sports Network) – Streaking lefty Randy Wolf goes for consecutive win No. 4 tonight when his Milwaukee Brewers visit Minute Maid Park for game two of a three-game series with the Houston Astros.

The Californian will try for a second straight Milwaukee mound gem, following up on Shaun Marcum’s seven scoreless innings in the Brewers’ 5-0 win on Friday.

Prince Fielder and Ryan Braun had a home run and two RBI apiece in the victory.

Marcum (3-1) allowed three hits and two walks while striking out six to give the Brewers their sixth win in 10 games.

Brett Myers (1-1) went six innings, allowing four runs on five hits and three walks while fanning eight in Houston’s third straight loss.

A 34-year-old product of Pepperdine University, Wolf dropped decisions to Cincinnati and the Chicago Cubs in his initial two starts while allowing 19 hits and 12 runs in 10 innings. He’s bounced back with three straight victories, beating Pittsburgh, Philadelphia and the Astros while giving up a single run on nine hits in 20 2/3 innings.

His 4-1 defeat of Houston on Sunday lifted his career record against the Astros to 7-5 in 17 starts with a 3.27 earned run average.

The most recent win bumped Wolf’s career record to 117-99 in 318 games.

For Houston, lefty Wandy Rodriguez returns after he gave up 10 hits and four runs on the short end of the decision against Wolf and the Brewers. The 32- year-old Dominican did strike out nine batters, but dropped to 1-3 on the year to go along with a 5.40 ERA.

Rodriguez is 7-7 with a 4.02 ERA in 109 2/3 career innings against Milwaukee, striking out 96 batters and walking 44.

The Brewers took two of three at home from the Astros last weekend and have won six of the past nine meetings overall.
