MLB Draft 2011: Astros Third Rounder Jack Armstrong Is Obviously The Next Ozzie Smith

The Astros spent their third round pick today on Vanderbilt right-hander Jack Armstrong. Armstrong didn't really get many innings this year, and will likely play in the Cape Cod League. The college results are pretty mixed, as he had a 4.71 ERA last season with the Commodores, walking 39 and striking out 50. This year he pitched just 17 innings, walking 18, with a 2.65 ERA.

That said, he works with raw heat, and he's big. He's touched the upper 90's and if the Astros can get his back problems fixed up, he's got a chance to be a lot better as a professional than he was as a Commodore.

You know what would be a good start on that? Not doing this:

The Astros will be glad to have Armstrong's power arm in their farm system. They probably will not let him do this any more. It's too bad, because baseball definitely needs more backflips.
