Teams Including Braves Lowballing On Michael Bourn

A trade which looked to be picking up steam yesterday may not even happen today and there may be a chance that no teams nibble on Michael Bourn. A report said that last night that the Braves have six untouchable prospects, with Ed Wade unlikely to part with his center fielder for an inferior package.

With the Indians sated having picked up Ubaldo Jimenez last night they fall out of the market for Bourn, but it may create a market for Wandy Rodriguez with teams desperate for starting pitching.

If the Atlanta Braves are unlikely to include either Randall Delgado or Mike Minor for Bourn, then Frank Wren will have to switch to a cheaper alternative like Coco Crisp. Wade will have to keep Bourn until the winter where he can get some more teams interested in him.

Considering that Bourn in his own way a better player than Hunter Pence, it is mystifying that teams are valuing him so low. He does have a year less left on his contract so that may be one of the reasons. Your teams is banged up, your trying to shore up your team for a run to the World Series and you have the chance to acquire the premier base-stealer and elite leadoff man, who you could probably lock up on a long-term deal and you don't want to give up any top prospects for him? I can understand holding onto Arodys Vizcaino and Julio Teheran, but six untouchable prospects? That is super-cautious.

We will see if Wren has to blink this afternoon as the window approaches.
