Former first-round pick clears waivers to become a free agent.

The Houston Astros announced a few roster moves that trimmed their 40-man roster to 31 players.

According to general manager Jeff Luhnow, the Astros outright released outfielders Brian Bogusevic and J.B. Schuck, along with pitchers Jorge De Leon, Arcenio Leon and Chuckie Fick. The team assigned Fick to Triple-A Oklahoma CIty while Milwaukee claimed Leon on waivers.

Bogusevic, a former first-round pick of the Astros, cleared waivers and will become a free agent. The 28-year-old outfielder started his career as a pitcher before transitioning to the outfield as an every-day player. Bogusevic earned a starting spot in right field to begin the season and went on to play in 146 games for the Astros. He finished the season batting .203 with seven home runs and 28 RBI.

Like Bogusevic, De Leon and Schuck cleared waivers and will move on with their careers via free agency. De Leon transitioned from the infield to the mound in 2010 and struggled in his first full season of pitching in Class-A Lancaster.

The Astros hang on to Fick after acquiring the 26-year-old reliever from St. Louis off of waivers this season. Fick made 18 appearances with Houston, finishing the season 0-1 with a 4.30 ERA.
