Houston Astros: Marwin Gonzalez Placed On DL, Brian Bixler Called Up

Stay connected for news and updates

Marwin Gonzalez's right heel bruise was worse that initially expected, as the infielder was placed on the 15-day disabled list by the Astros on Friday.

Gonzalez left Wednesday's game against the St. Louis Cardinals and had X-Rays on Thursday. This season, Gonzalez is hitting .261 with three doubles and one home run.

As a result, utility infielder Brian Bixler has been recalled. Bixler played early in the season when Jed Lowrie was injured, and Gonzalez was on paternity leave. In six games, Bixler went 1-for-7 with a walk. In Triple-A Oklahoma City this year, Bixler has hit .302 with a .374 on-base percentage.
