The Astros were swept again by the Arizona Diamondbacks over the weekend and have dropped 40 of their last 47 games.
Boy, those Snakes don't mess around when they're playing the Astros, do they? Arizona went 6-0 against Houston this season and outscored the Stros, 56-19 in those games. That's the Diamondbacks scoring more than nine runs a game. They probably wish they could play the Astros every day.
Arizona capped its most recent series sweep against Houston with an 8-1 pounding on Sunday at Minute Maid Park. It was the first day on the job for interim manager Tony DeFrancesco, who'd been called up from the Triple-A Oklahoma City Redhawks to replace recently fired manager Brad Mills.
It didn't go exactly the way he wanted it to, mostly because of the fourth inning when the Snakes took a 5-0 lead that almost promised that the Astros wouldn't be able to rally. But there was also Aaron Hill who hit a pair of solo home runs.
The best night of the weekend was the first, when Houston still lost, but Dallas Keuchel went out and pitched a really good game. It was nice to see the rookie have such command of his pitches, while it's rough not having any offense that can support those kinds of outings.
