Pearce was claimed by the Astros off waivers from the Baltimore Orioles on July 28, and had started the season with Baltimore. In 21 games with the Astros, Pearce hit .254 with eight RBIs.
To fill the roster spot, the Astros recalled 23-year-old Paredes from Triple-A Oklahoma City. Paredes has made the transition to the outfield this season after playing primarily infield to start his career. Paredes was a Pacific Coast League All-Star this season, hitting .318/.348/.477 with 13 homeruns, 59 RBIs and 37 stolen bases.
Paredes made his MLB debut last season, playing primarily at third base and appearing in 46 games, hitting .286 with two home runs and 18 RBI.
It is expected that Paredes will play in the outfield with Houston.
