Houston's Kevin Sumlin Accepts Texas A&M Job

It is now official that the Texas A&M Aggies have hired away Kevin Sumlin from the Houston Cougars. This hire was first reported last Saturday during the Conference USA title game, but Texas A&M still wanted to interview other candidates for the job. Ultimately they came back to Sumlin.

Sumlin did thank Houston for the opportunity to be their head coach in his first statement as the Texas A&M head coach:

"I can't thank the University of Houston enough for giving me a chance to become a head football coach. It is tough to leave a group of players who have worked so hard and have done things the right way in taking Cougar football to greater heights."

Sumlin was at Houston for four years and had a record of 35-17.

Houston athletic director Mack Rhoades won't say whether Sumlin will take any coaches with him to Texas A&M. Assistant head coachTony Levine has been named the interim coach through the team's TicketCity Bowl game against the Penn St. Nittany Lions.
