Houston vs. SMU: New Cougar OC Travis Bush helping 3-0 run

Bob Levey

In the five games since the Cougars handed play-calling duties to Bush, Houston is averaging 575.6 yards per game

After stumbling out of the gates with an 0-3 start, the Houston Cougars have won three games in a row, and the upswing is due in large part to the team's new offensive coordinator, Travis Bush, according to Joseph Duarte of the Houston Chronicle.

In the five games since Bush took over the team's play-calling duties, the Cougars are averaging 575.6 yards per game. Houston's recent run of success has included wins over Rice, North Texas and a 39-17 victory over UAB last week. The resurgence of quarterback David Piland has also been a key component to the team's winning streak. After a rough start, he's sixth in the nation with 369 yards of total offense per game and has thrown for 1,044 yards, five touchdowns and one interception during that stretch.

Houston is 2-0 in Conference USA play heading into Thursday's game against the SMU Mustangs. Kickoff is scheduled for 7 p.m. CT and the game will be televised on Fox Sports Net.
