On Thursday night, the Houston Rockets built a big lead only to lose it thanks to a seven point fourth quarter against the New Orleans Hornets. The Rockets eventually prevailed in overtime against the Hornets but found themselves in a similar situation Saturday night against the Spurs.
On Thursday, Houston aimlessly passed the ball around the perimeter and settled for long contested jump shots. In Saturday's game the Rockets attacked the basket particularly in pick and roll situation and the result was a 28 point fourth quarter and a 105-102 win.
"We started attacking a little bit more," coach Kevin McHale said. "Their bigs got out and started trying to play in space. Yesterday in practice I was telling the guard, ‘You have no idea how uncomfortable that big is out there five feet above the 3-point line trying to guard Kyle Lowry and Goran Dragic. Attack them, attack them, attack them.' We did a better job turning the corner and attacking them.
"When they play that aggressively - their bigs were coming out and trying to really impact the ball - you got to blow by them. If one guy can't blow by them, by the time you swing it around you get the other guy more space to do it."
Its working for the Rockets who along with the Memphis Grizzlies have a league high six game winning streak.

The Houston Rockets 105-102 win over the San Antonio Spurs gave the Rockets their sixth straight win which improved their record to 9-7. This was the Spurs fourth game in five nights so they rested Tim Duncan, and that did certainly did help Houston get the victory.

The Houston Rockets are looking to win their sixth straight game and if they do that it will get them back to .500 on the year. The Rockets are on their way to reaching those milestones as they lead the San Antonio Spurs 55-49 at the half.
The Rockets are being led by Kevin Martin who has 11 points and Courtney Lee who has come off the bench to score nine points. The six-point led is due to the Rockets shooting better than the Spurs, in the first half the Rockets are shooting 58 percent compared to the Spurs 47 percent.
The Spurs are being led in scoring by Tony Parker who has 13 points with Tiago Splitter chipping in with 11 points off of the bench.

The Rockets started off hot as the Spurs looked lost during the first quarter and after a Spurs timeout they readjusted their game plan and had all plays run through Tony Parker. Once the Spurs did that they cut into the Rockets lead, but at the end of the first quarter the Rockets led by five points.
After the first quarter the two teams went back-and-forth for the rest of the game and San Antonio had a chance to tie or take the lead when they were down 101-99 with 1:15 left in the fourth quarter. The Rockets nearly lost the ball on the inbounds but Goran Dragic was able to pick up the loose ball and scored a basket to put the Rockets up four and that shot sealed the win for the Rockets.
Kevin Martin led the Rockets on Saturday by scoring 25 points in the win.
