NBA Standings 2012: Rockets Battling For First Place In Southwest Division

The Rockets are in the thick of the Southwest Division race and are only 1/2 game back of the Mavericks for the division lead.

Jan 29, 2012 - The Houston Rockets started the season 3-7 and were almost written off just 10 games into the NBA season, but since then the Rockets have won nine of their last 10 games and are now positioning themselves at the top of the Southwest Division.

The Southwest Division is one of the tightest divisions in the NBA as the top four teams are separated by only four games with the Dallas Mavericks at the top with the Rockets being only 1/2 game behind. The Memphis Grizzlies were at the top but they are currently on a three-game losing streak and have fallen to fourth place.

This week the Rockets play four games but only one of those games comes against the San Antonio Spurs in a key division game. The only team that looks to be out of contention are the New Orleans Hornets who are 8.5 games back of the division lead.
