After it was announced that he would be missing training camp due to anxiety issues, Rockets head coach Kevin McHale said that Royce White "needs to be" there.
Rookie forward Royce White has missed the beginning of training camp for the Houston Rockets, which started on Tuesday. The Rockets announced on Monday that Royce would be missing the start of camps because of a "personal matter," which was related to the anxiety issues that had red-flagged him with some teams prior to the 2012 Draft. Houston selected White with the 16th overall pick.
Head coach Kevin McHale and the rest of the Rockets are naturally disappointed with his absence. Though they wouldn't elaborate on what was keeping him away from the team, McHale did make sure to say, "He needs to be here, there's no question."
There has been no word on when the Rockets expect Royce to finally return to the team. He was one of three members of the team who was forced to miss Tuesday – Carlos Delfino was unable to practice due to visa issues, while Jon Brockman remained out with an eye injury.
