James Harden discusses new leadership role with Rockets

Rick Osentoski-US PRESSWIRE

James Harden says he's just trying to make plays, still getting used to his new role in Houston.

James Harden is making getting used to new surroundings and a new role look easy. The Houston Rockets' guard hasn't even been in Houston for a full week yet and he's already having a huge impact on his new team.

Harden has scored 82 points in two games with the Rockets, becoming the team's leader on the court, along with new back court mate Jeremy Lin. Alex Kennedy of Hoopsworld writes Harden called his new a role "a lot different" from the one he had in Oklahoma City.

"It’s a lot different," Harden said. "Coming off the bench is different than starting and having basically the entire offense run through you. I have to get used to it. That’s my job now so I have to get it going."

Harden added that he thinks he and Lin are so tough to stop because they both have the ability to score for themselves and get their teammates involved. While Harden has deservedly been getting much of the spotlight so far, Lin's start has also been encouraging. The point guard is averaging 16.5 points per game, seven assists and seven rebounds in his first two games with Houston.
