NBA Free Agency 2012: Carmelo Anthony Wants Jeremy Lin Back In New York

You read the headline correctly. Carmelo Anthony says he wants the Knicks to be able to work a deal with Jeremy Lin, whose $25.1 million offer sheet with the Rockets shows that the point guard out of Harvard could very well find himself playing in Houston for the team that cut him almost a year ago.

Melo made news by calling Houston's offer ridiculous, but perhaps that quote was taken out of context. The deal was ridiculous because the Rockets did it out of desperation after losing both of their point guards from last year. Ridiculous is also slang terminology for something massive or maybe even unprecedented for a particular situation, which the Lin contract fits.

This is what Anthony said via Ken Berger at CBSSports.com after Team USA handled the Brazil team on Monday night:

"I hope we can get it done, man," Anthony said. "I would love to see him back. Honestly, I would deflinitey love to see him back. But knowing the business of basketball, it's kind of a tough situation for both parties. For Jeremy, I know that he definitely wants to be back in New York and (Madison Square Garden chairman) James Dolan definitely wants him back. But it's just a matter of figuring it out at this point."

"I always get backlash; it's nothing new. It was ridiculous for them to do what they did as far as throwing that out there and making it tough on us to sign him back. That's why it's called free agency, though."
