With Texans head coach Gary Kubiak on a hot seat that's roughly equivalent to the sun's surface, I thought I would toss out a bit of NFL trivia for those pondering Houston's next head coach.
According to Pro Football Reference, there have been 453 people who have been a head coach in the NFL - interim or full-time. This number will jump to 454 on Sunday when Jim Tomsula is handed the interim reins for San Francisco.
Out of those 453 men, none have won Super Bowl championships for multiple franchises. More so, only 1% (that would be five total) of those head coaches have won conference championships for multiple franchises - Don Shula, Bill Parcells, Dan Reeves, Dick Vermeil, and Mike Holmgren.
Previous coaching success is not easily transferred, according to league history. When you call for Bill Cowher or Jon Gruden to replace Kubiak, this may be something to keep in mind.
