Texans Place Matt Schaub On IR, Sign Kellen Clemens

The former Jets QB was signed to provide depth behind new starter Matt Leinart.

For the rest of this season, the Houston Texans are moving on without Matt Schaub. The Texans placed their Pro Bowl QB on the injured reserve list and signed former New York Jets QB Kellen Clemens in his place.

The recovery time on Schaub's Lisfranc injury is expected to be at least a few months, so there was never much of a chance he would play again this season.

Without Schaub, the only other QB on Houston's roster besides new starter Matt Leinart was T.J. Yates, a rookie fifth-round pick out of North Carolina who has never thrown an NFL pass.

Clemens, a six-year NFL veteran whom the Jets drafted in the second round in 2006 out of Oregon, is expected to provide depth behind Leinart, although presumably it will take him a few weeks to pick up the Texans playbook.

He played in 25 games in New York, completing 51.8% of his passes for 1,686 yards, 5 TD's and 11 INT's. He was released at the end of the 2010 season and signed with the Washington Redskins in the off-season but was unable to win a job in Washington out of training camp and has been waiting for an opening around the league since.
