Falcons Vs. Texans Final Score: Houston Defense Comes Up Big In 17-10 Win Over Atlanta

Matt Ryan's hail mary attempt to Julio Jones fell incomplete and the Houston Texans overcame more injuries to capture a big 17-10 home win over the Atlanta Falcons.

The Texans overcame injuries to standout wide receiver Andre Johnson as well cornerback  Jason Allen and punter Brett Hartmann. They did so with rookie Tyler Yates managing an offense that relied heavily on running back Arian Foster and a dominating defense that harassed the Falcons the entire game.

Yates finished 12 of 25 in the game for 188 yards and a second quarter touchdown to Joe Dreessen that gave the Texans a 10-0 lead. Arian Foster ran the ball 31 times for 111 yards and a fourth quarter touchdown that put Houston in front for good. Andre Johnson caught four passes for 97 yards before leaving the game in the third quarter with an injury to his left hamstring.

Atlanta struggled to move the ball against the Texans defense. Matt Ryan struggled to a 20 of 45 day for 267 yards with a touchdown and two interceptions. Ryan was sacked three times by the Texans' defense. The Falcons weren't able to get the ground game going with Michael Turner amassing only 44 yards on 14 carries. Tony Gonzalez caught seven passes for 100 yards.

The win moves Houston to 9-3 on the season and maintains their two game advantage over the Tennessee Titans in the AFC South division. The Texans hit the road next week for a match up in Cincinnati against the Bengals.

VIDEO: Andre Johnson Injury Update: Houston Texans WR Suffers Hamstring Injury

Andre Johnson has been taken to the locker room as the wide receiver for the Houston Texans seems to have suffered a hamstring injury while running a deep route in the third quarter against the Atlanta Falcons.

Per the Houston Texans twitter feed:

WR Andre Johnson is standing up and walking slowly toward the locker room with team trainers and doctor beside him. #DeepSteelSunday

However, the hamstring injury was not to the same leg as the one hurt previously.

Just to clarify, Andre Johnson's injury is to his left hamstring. It was his right hamstring earlier this season @NickScurfield via Twitter

Johnson was seen visibly frustrated as the wideout and the entire team has been plagued by injuries all season. For the day, Johnson was back to his regular form with four catches and 97 yards receiving thus far.

Here is the video of Andre Johnson's injury, as the Texans and the Falcons are tied 10-10 early in the fourth quarter in Reliant Stadium.

Falcons Vs. Texans Halftime Update: Turnovers Aplenty Give Houston A 10-3 Lead

While the Houston Texans prepared to get their third-string quarterback T.J. Yates ready to face off against the defending NFC South champion Atlanta Falcons, who knew that the other quarterback would be the one playing like a young and inexperienced signal-caller.

Falcons' quarterback Matt Ryan threw two interceptions in the first quarter to effectively kill drives for head coach Mike Smith's offense. The Texans have done an awesome job of getting pressure on Ryan, and the turnovers have helped the Texans keep their foot on the Falcons throat.

As for Yates, a 10-18 passing performance for 154 yards and a touchdown for Joel Dreessen is an achievement that Texans head coach Gary Kubiak would take from his third-stringer any Sunday.

However, the Texans will be without the services of Pro Bowl linebacker Brian Cushing for the remainder of the game and possibly longer. Trying to make a tackle in the second quarter, Cushing's knee buckled and needed help getting off the field. Later trainers took him to the locker room and the linebacker looks unlikely to return.

Check out the video of T.J. Yates connecting with Andre Johnson on a deep pass in the first half.

Brian Cushing Injury Update: Texans LB Suffers Knee Injury, Taken To Locker Room

Injures for the Houston Texans have been nothing new to deal with this season, so when the Texans linebacker Brian Cushing went down with an apparent knee injury after it buckled, its safe to say that Gary Kubiak didn't even flinch.

Per the Houston Texans twitter feed:

LB Brian Cushing got off the training table & is walking around slowly in the bench area. He is headed to the locker room. #DeepSteelSunday

The doctors were looking at his knee cap, and things don't seem to be looking good for the USC linebacker. Rylan Reed has stepped in for Texans in place of Cushing, as the Texans lead the Falcons 10-3 in the second quarter.

Can the Texans continue to sustain all of these injuries to their roster, or will the depth of the Texans really shine through? We'll soon find out.

Texans Vs. Falcons Injury Report And Inactive List, Week 13

Outside of the Houston Texans begging the T.J. Yates era at the quarterback position they are fairly healthy. Wide receiver Andre Johnson was still hobbled by a hamstring injury and was listed as probable, but there was no real doubt that Johnson would be out in this game. There are no other starters missing on either side of the ball for the Texans.

As for the Atlanta Falcons there was a possibility that they could have been without running back Michael Turner who has been slowed this week with a quad injury is active as is wide receiver Julio Jones who has been bothered by a hamstring off and on over the past two months.

Houston Texans inactives:

• Quarterback Kellen Clemens
• Fullback Lawrence Vickers
• Tight end Garrett Graham
• Tackle Andrew Gardner
• Guard Thomas Austin
• Defensive end Tim Bulman
• Cornerback Brandon Harris

Atlanta Falcons inactives:

• Quarterback John Parker Wilson
• Tackle Kirk Chambers
• Center Brett Romberg
• Defensive end Cliff Mathews
• Linebacker Stephen Nicholas
• Cornerback Kelvin Hayden
• Cornerback Brent Grimes

Arian Foster Week 13 Fantasy Projections

With the Houston Texans down to their third-string quarterback in T.J. Yates, this could mean that Arian Foster will be getting a lot more carries to elevate the pressure off of Yates. Foster is already a must start when he is healthy, however this week could present a challenge as the Falcons are one of the best teams against the run in the NFL.

CBS Sports fantasy department takes a closer look at Foster's potential this week:

After three straight games with more than 110 rushing yards, Texans RB Arian Foster has gone two straight with less than 85. He had only 65 last week at Jacksonville, averaging less than 3.0 per carry for the first time all season. That's especially disconcerting given his opponent in Week 13. The visiting Falcons have the league's second-ranked run defense, giving 83.5 yards per game, and haven't allowed more than 70 rushing yards to any running back since Week 3. Of course, Foster figures to handle even more of the offensive load than usual with rookie QB T.J. Yates, a third-stringer two games ago, making his first NFL start.

Even with Foster somewhat in a slump and facing the Falcons are good against the run, SB Nations fantasy sports blog Fake Teams ranks Foster as the No. 4 back this week, and numberFire is slightly hire on Foster and have him ranked as the No. 3 back and the difference is negligible between the first three spots.

Andre Johnson Week 13 Fantasy Projections

Houston Texans wie receiver Andre Johnson returned last week after being out since Week 4 with a hamstring injury and only had two catches for 22 yards. With another week of practice, Johnson should be in better football shape however the Texans are down to their No. 3 quarterback T.J. Yates. With Johnson recovering from an injury coupled with a reserve quarterback it is hard to accurately predict how productive Johnson will be fantasy wise.

CBS Sports fantasy goes deeper into what to expect from Johnson on Sunday:

Johnson, who missed six straight games with a hamstring injury, hardly seemed worth the wait when he returned with only two catches for 22 yards Week 12 at Jacksonville. But coach Gary Kubiak said he liked what he saw from Johnson, whose biggest problem seemed to be tiring out after such a long layoff. He'll hopefully be in better condition to play four quarters Week 13 against the Falcons, because the Texans are going to need him. They'll be starting third-string QB T.J. Yates after Matt Schaub suffered a season-ending injury in Week 10 and Matt Leinart followed him to the IR list in Week 12. The Falcons rank only 23rd against the pass this season, allowing 245.7 yards per game, but they rank second against the run.

Over at SB Nation's Fake Teams are optimistic as they rank Johnson as the No. 7 wide receiver, and over at numberFire they have Johnson at No. 18.

Owen Daniels Week 13 Fantasy Projections

Houston Texans tight end Owen Daniels could see a dip in production since Houston is down to  their third-string quarterback T.J. Yates. Daniels has been hampered by a hyperextended knee that he suffered in Week 10, but Daniels has yet to miss any action.

Over at CBS Sports fantasy, they do not see Daniels being a must start:

Daniels doesn't have the most optimal conditions for a rebound Week 13 against the Falcons. He's facing the league's 23rd-ranked pass defense, sure, but Atlanta has had success against tight ends, allowing the seventh-fewest Fantasy points to them this season. Plus, Daniels will be working with a rookie QB in T.J. Yates, who was the team's third-stringer just two games ago. Consider Daniels a No. 2 Fantasy TE for Week 13.

SB Nation's Fake Teams list Daniels as the No. 14 tight end, and numberFire predicts Daniels as the No. 15 ranked tight end for Week 13.

Texans Injury Report, Week 13: Andre Johnson Probable Vs. Falcons

The Houston Texans will be without injured quarterbacks Matt Schaub and Matt Leinart for the rest of the 2011 NFL season. But, finally, they have Andre Johnson back on the field. The highly regarded wide receiver is listed as probable for the Texans' Week 13 clash with the Atlanta Falcons, and will be playing in his second straight game for Houston.

Here's the rest of Friday's edition of the Texans injury report for Week 13:

OUT: DE Tim Bulman (calf).

DOUBTFUL: none.

QUESTIONABLE: TE Graham Garrett (hamstring), FB Lawrence Vickers (hamstrong).

Atlanta Falcons Week 13 Injury Report: Michael Turner Held Out Of Practice Due To Groin

Michael Turner was held out of practice Wednesday by the Atlanta Falcons medical staff due to issues with the running back's groin. Turner, currently 4th in the NFL in rushing, carried the ball 19 times for 60 yards in last week's 24-14 victory over the Minnesota. Its possible that Turner strained it but continued to play through the pain in Sunday's contest.

Here is the full injury report for the Atlanta Falcons as they prepare to face-off versus the Houston Texans:

Did not participate: DE John Abraham (not injury related), TE Tony Gonzalez (not injury related), CB Brent Grimes (knee), CB Kelvin Hayden (toe), WR Julio Jones (hamstring), C Todd McClure (not injury related), LB Stephen Nicholas (quadriceps), RB Michael Turner (groin), DT Vance Walker (groin)

Limited participation: T Sam Baker (back)

Full participation: CB Dunta Robinson (neck)

Houston Texans Week 13 Injury Report: Two Quarterbacks Down, Receiver Corps Fight To Stay Healthy

T.J. Yates, you got the juice now brother. No Matt Schaub and no Matt Leinart in your way, feel free to sling the pigskin all across the field. You need someone to throw the ball to? Well...your tight ends are dinged up, but both Owen Daniels and Joel Dreessen are toughing it out and did practice today. Your star wideout? Well...Andre Johnson's knee is dinged a bit, still recovering from issues pre-Thanksgiving but he's limited in practice today.

Maybe T.J. should just hand the ball off to Arian Foster and Ben Tate, let those receivers heal up.

Here is the injury report for the Houston Texans as they prepare for the Atlanta Falcons on Sunday:

Did not participate: DT Tim Bulman (calf), LB Brian Cushing (ribs), FB Lawrence Vickers (hamstring)

Limited participation: LB Mister Alexander (shoulder), DT Shaun Cody (toe, ankle), LB Tim Dobbins (shoulder), TE Garrett Graham (hamstring), WR Andre Johnson (knee), CB Johnathan Joseph (hip), S Glover Quin (elbow), DE Antonio Smith (shoulder, back), G Wade Smith (ankle)

Full participation: CB Jason Allen (thumb), G Mike Brisiel (ankle), TE Owen Daniels (knee), TE Joel Dreessen (neck), S Danieal Manning (ankle)
