Bills vs. Texans 2012: Houston fans unimpressed with Mario Williams in return

Mario Williams' return to Houston wound up being uneventful, as the former Texan registered just five tackles and one sack.

The Houston Texans continued their most successful season in franchise history on Sunday when they knocked off the Buffalo Bills 21-9, and improved to 7-1 on the season.

Though the Bills were never supposed to hang around with the Texans, there still was a lot of buzz coming into the game this week -- thanks to one Mario Williams. Williams spent the first six seasons with the Texans before signing as a free agent with the Bills this past offseason.

The folks over at Battle Red Blog, SB Nation's Houston Texans blog, weren't too impressed with Williams in his return.

The game's biggest storyline was, of course, the return of Mario Williams to Reliant Stadium. After a near two weeks of hype, Williams just amounted to five tackles and one sack. Right tackle Derek Newton handled Williams one-on-one for nearly the entire day, aside from the one sack made on a nice inside move.

Houston shocked the world when they drafted Williams with the No. 1 overall pick in the 2006 NFL Draft instead of USC Trojans running back Reggie Bush. The pick paid dividends for the Texans, as Williams became one of the NFL's top pass rushers, while Bush failed to solidify himself as an every down back in the early stages of his career.

So far in 2012, Williams has just 4 1/2 sacks and 23 tackles. Williams had been playing with a torn ligament in his left wrist through Buffalo's first seven games before undergoing surgery during Buffalo's bye week.
