Brett Davis-US PRESSWIRE

The veteran nose tackle will not play against the Chicago Bears on Sunday night after suffering a punctured lung and broken ribs against the Bills.

As expected, Houston Texas defensive lineman Shaun Cody will not play against the Chicago Bears on Sunday night, according to John McClain of the Houston Chronicle.

Cody suffered broken ribs and punctured lung in the Texans' win against the Buffalo Bills, returning to the field and finishing the game after suffering the injury. The full extent of the damage was not known until after the game, and Cody has yet to practice this week.

The veteran nose tackle has a reputation as a tough player who can play through injuries and has been working through a back injury for most of this season. Cody has started all but two games for the Texans since coming to Houston in 2009, playing with the Detroit Lions from 2005 to 2008. In four seasons in Houston, Cody has 1.5 sacks and four passes defensed. So far in 2012, Cody has 13 tackles.

The Texans face the Chicago Bears on Sunday night with kickoff set for 8:20 p.m. ET on NBC.
