Texans Free Agency: Houston Signs Punter Donnie Jones

Whooo, the Houston Texans finally added a free agent. It's an offensive lineman, right? Well, maybe a linebacker? Or at least another cornerback, right? Someone to compete with Kareem Jackson?

No..it's a dang punter...

Welcome in Donnie Jones, who is likely to be the punter for at least the first three games while Brett Hartmann serves a suspension for performance-enhancing drug use.

Jones was 22nd in the league in average at 44.3, just slightly behind Hartmann (44.4), but thanks to poor coverage by the Rams (or poor hang time), his net was nearly a full yard shorter than Hartmann’s. Neither one was particularly good, as Hartmann was 28th in the league net, with Jones 31st.

Jones is a former All-Pro who seems to have fallen on hard times. But, he's better than Matt Turk? I don't know. I can't spin this very well. Jones will do alright until Hartmann is back. If Hartmann comes back fully from the injury to his knee, he can be a very good option back there. If not, well, Jones isn't Matt Turk. That's about all I can say.
