NFL Mock Draft 2012: Kendall Wright Falls To Houston Texans In Round One

The thought of another dynamic receiver opposite Andre Johnson is likely enough to keep defensive coordinators awake at night. The Houston Texans, after all, have one of the top offensive attacks in the game of football, so the addition of another dynamic target just makes it that much harder. But given the way teams can double team Johnson, it makes sense for the Texans to grab another option for Matt Schaub in the upcoming 2012 NFL Draft.

The latest mock from Charlie Campbell addresses just that with the choice of Kendall Wright of Baylor at the No. 26 selection. He writes:

The Texans could use another wide receiver to pair with Andre Johnson. Kevin Walter and Jacoby Jones are quality options, but Houston could use a young receiver to develop for Matt Schaub.

Wright slides in this mock after his disappointing performance at the Combine. He had an atrocious 40 time of 4.61. While the 40 wasn’t strong, Wright will still bring a downfield explosive element to any NFL offense. He was an unstoppable receiver this season in the Big XII. The top target for quarterback Robert Griffin III, Wright burned secondaries with big plays downfield throughout 2011. His blazing speed is hard for defensive backs to contain, and he has good hands with the ability to make difficult catches along the sideline.

Wright definitely saw his stock slip at the NFL Combine after lackluster workouts, but his talent is too much to ignore. If teams like his game film, then he should be able to overcome the issues that plagued him in Indy. If not, then the Texans could go another direction. For now, Wright makes a lot of sense at that value and need.
