The Houston Texans have been rumored to grab a wide receiver for some time in most mocks leading up to the 2012 NFL Draft. Chad Reuter’s new seven-round mock for NFL.com has the Texans bolstering their offensive line instead, a good thought after the team released Eric Winston earlier this offseason. Jonathan Martin is the choice in the first round for the Texans in Reuter’s latest.
The former Stanford tackle could likely line up on the right side from day one, and the team will need to keep Matt Schaub healthy into the playoffs if they hope to eventually make it all the way. The team also adds impressive additions on both lines in the rest of the draft projections from NFL.com.
Here’s Reuter’s complete projections for the Texans including round chosen and overall selection in parentheses:
1 (26) Jonathan Martin, OT, Stanford
2 (58) Alameda Ta’amu, DT, Washington
3 (76) Casey Hayward, CB, Vanderbilt
4 (99) Greg Childs, WR, Arkansas
4 (121) Nigel Bradham, LB, Florida State
5 (161) James Hanna, TE, Oklahoma
6 (195) Vick Ballard, RB, Mississippi State
7 (233) Blair Walsh, K, Georgia
