Houston Texans Offseason 2012: Bob McNair To Negotiate Contract Extensions For Gary Kubiak And Rick Smith

Just a year ago, a lot Houston Texans fans were calling for the firing of head coach Gary Kubiak and believed their wish would indeed come true. Instead, the Texans made their first ever trip to the playoffs in the 2011 season and Kubiak is on the verge of landing a contract extension, according to a report by longtime NFL writer John McClain.

Also up for an extension is general manager Rick Smith, but McClain says Kubiak will be dealt with first.

Kubiak was last given an extension in 2010 when his original contract was set to expire but after the Texans finished 9-7 the previous season.
